Job summary

American Traveler is hiring a Behavioral Health RN for a night shift assignment in Ohio. Candidates must hold an OH or compact RN license and have psychiatric nursing experience, with Epic charting proficiency and several certifications.

The role includes 3x12 shifts, 1:6 patient ratios, and weekend coverage, with strict fingerprinting timing and travel eligibility. Experience with crisis intervention, behavior management, and various psychiatric disorders is preferred.

Qualifications

• Active OH or compact RN license in hand at time of consideration.
• BLS certification required.
• CPI certification preferred.
• AEGIS certification preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required.
• Psychiatric nursing experience required.
• Previous charge experience preferred.
• Epic experience required.
• Education from ACEN or CCNE accredited program.
• Experience with psych meds including antianxiety, antidepressants, antipsychotics, mood stabilizers, sedatives/analgesics preferred.
• Experience with anxiety, bipolar, depressive, eating, personality, PTSD, psychotic disorders, substance use, suicidal behavior preferred.
• Experience with crisis intervention, de-escalation, and behavior management.
• Experience with seclusion and physical hold protocols.
• Experience with emergent chemical restraints and managing assaultive behavior preferred.
• Two professional references, at least one from a manager/director/supervisor and second from a Charge RN.

Responsibilities

• Behavioral Health unit in a hospital setting.
• Patient ratio of 1:6.
• Night shift, 3x12 hours (7:00 PM to 7:30 AM).
• Every other weekend coverage required.
• Float within units of equivalent or lower acuity.
• Uses Epic charting system.
• Provide direct psychiatric nursing care in an inpatient, locked behavioral health unit.
• Care for patients with a range of psychiatric/behavioral health conditions.
• Complete Ohio fingerprinting promptly upon signing contract.
• Locals accepted at the same pay rate.
• First-time travelers welcome to apply.
• Former employees eligible after 6+ months away.
• Current employees of Ohio State University hospital locations are ineligible to be hired as a traveler.
• RTO must be submitted and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less.

• 2 professional references required, with at least one from a manager, director, or supervisor and the second acceptable from a Charge RN (no coworker references)
