Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric Critical Care Float Pool. The role requires 5 years of NICU/PICU/Peds experience and a strong NICU background with an active California RN license in hand at submission.

The position involves floating among NICU, PICU, and Pediatrics on a night shift schedule (3x12). Prior travel nursing experience is required, and local candidates within 50 miles are not accepted. Comprehensive benefits and housing support are provided.

Qualifications

• Active California RN license required in hand at submission
• Minimum 5 years across NICU, PICU, and/or Pediatrics with strong NICU background
• Required certifications: BLS, NRP, PALS
• Preferred certifications: RNC-NIC, CCRN
• 1:2 patient ratio experience
• Prior travel nursing experience required
• Teaching hospital, community hospital, and Trauma Level I experience preferred
• Strong ICU skills including ventilator management, ABG interpretation, airway care, high flow nasal cannula, BiPAP/CPAP
• IV therapy, central/PICC line care, TPN/lipids, blood product administration
• Two supervisor-level references within 1 year

Responsibilities

• NICU serves as home unit with float requirements to PICU and Pediatrics
• NICU is a 22-bed Level III unit caring for preterm infants with various conditions
• PICU is an 8-bed Level II unit treating trauma and respiratory issues
• Pediatrics is a 24-bed general med/surg unit with specialized programs
• Night shift 3x12 hours, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
• Weekend shifts: 6 per 6-week schedule including major holidays
• Travelers float first among NICU, PICU, and Pediatrics
• Epic EMR used
• Provide critical care nursing support across NICU, PICU, and Pediatrics as float pool
• Maximum RTO of 5 days with no holiday RTO
• Former staff must be separated for at least 1 year before reapplying
• Local candidates within 50 miles not accepted
• Up to 16 hours orientation modules may be required
• First-time travelers not considered due to travel experience requirement

• PICU is an 8-bed Level II unit treating trauma, respiratory diagnoses, ingestions, and occasional surgical cases
• Pediatrics is a 24-bed general med/surg unit with an embedded Eating Disorder Stabilization Program and long-term EEG program
• Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
• Weekend requirement of 6 shifts per 6-week schedule, including major holiday blocks
• Travelers float first among NICU, PICU, and Pediatrics
• Epic EMR used
• Provide critical care nursing support across NICU, PICU, and Pediatrics as part of the float pool
• Maximum RTO of 5 days with no holiday RTO accepted
• Former staff must be separated for at least 1 year before reapplying
• Candidates previously marked DNR from Rady's will not be considered for this facility due to the Rady's/CHOC merger; rehire eligibility for cancelled CHOC travelers requires leadership review
• Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are not accepted
• Up to 16 hours of orientation modules may be required, completed during orientation and varying by specialty
• First-time travelers are not considered for this position due to required travel experience
