Job summary

American Traveler is seeking a pediatric travel nurse to float across PICU, NICU, peds PACU, ED boarders and mother-baby units in a teaching hospital setting.

The position features night shifts (7:00 PM–7:00 AM), 36–48 hours per week, and a 13-week contract with alternating weekends and holidays. Requires NICU/PICU experience, Virginia RN licensure, and Epic EMR proficiency.

Qualifications

• Active RN license valid in Virginia (or compact license)
• BSN preferred
• Minimum 2 years PICU experience
• Comfort with NICU, acute pediatrics, and pediatric ED
• Teaching hospital experience required
• Prior travel experience preferred; NICU/PICU float pool experience considered
• Certifications: BLS, NRP, ACLS, PALS
• Infant-Driven Feeding Certificate required (may be pending)
• Epic EMR experience required
• Peds PACU experience preferred
• Previous charge experience preferred
• LTAC/Trauma Level I/II experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Float Pool position covering PICU, NICU, peds med-surg, peds PACU, peds ED boarders, and mother-baby units
• Night shift 7:00 PM–7:00 AM
• 36 or 48 hours per week
• 13-week contract length
• Every other weekend and every other holiday rotation
• Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed
• Patient ratio of 1:2
• Uses Epic charting system
• Floating within scope of practice per facility float policy
• Provide critical care nursing to pediatric patients across multiple units
• Max 40 hours of RTO per 13-week contract; no RTO in first 2 weeks
• First-time travelers with NICU/PICU float pool experience considered

• Minimum 2 years of PICU experience required


• Must be comfortable with NICU, acute pediatrics, and pediatric ED patient populations


• Teaching hospital experience required


• Prior travel experience required, though candidates with previous NICU/PICU float pool experience will be considered


• Required certifications: BLS, NRP, ACLS, and PALS


• Infant-Driven Feeding Certificate required (may submit with certification pending)


• Epic EMR experience required


• Peds PACU experience highly preferred


• Previous charge experience preferred


• Community hospital, LTAC, and Trauma Level I/II experience preferred

• Night shift schedule with 4x12-hour shifts (7:00 PM-7:00 AM)


• 36 or 48 hours per week


• 13-week contract length


• Every other weekend and every other holiday rotation required


• Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed


• Patient ratio of 1:2


• Uses Epic charting system


• Floating required within scope of practice per facility float policy


• Provide critical care nursing to pediatric patients across multiple specialty units including PICU, NICU, and pediatric ED


• Maximum 40 hours of RTO approved per 13-week contract, with no RTO approved during the first 2 weeks of the assignment


• No additional RTO requests approved after offer acceptance


• First-time travelers will be considered if they have previous NICU/PICU float pool experience


• Previous UVA employees (permanent staff or internal/external travelers) must have 1-year separation and leadership approval to return


• External travelers cannot exceed 365 total assignment days and are not eligible to return after reaching this limit
