Job summary

American Traveler is seeking a Pediatric Critical Care Float Pool RN for a 52-week teaching hospital assignment in Virginia. The role requires PICU and NICU experience, and an active VA or compact RN license to start.

BLS, NRP, ACLS, and PALS certifications are mandatory, with APHON/CPHON/OCN preferred. The ideal candidate will be comfortable across NICU, PICU, pediatrics ED, and postpartum units, and possess Epic EMR experience.

Qualifications

• Active VA or compact RN license required (in-hand by start date preferred)
• BLS, NRP, ACLS, and PALS certifications required
• APHON, CPHON, and OCN certifications preferred
• Infant-Driven Feeding Certificate required (can submit pending)
• Minimum 2 years PICU experience
• Must be comfortable with NICU, acute pediatrics, and pediatric ED patient populations
• Previous NICU/PICU float pool travel experience required or will be considered in lieu of general travel experience
• Teaching hospital experience required
• Peds PACU experience highly preferred
• BSN preferred
• Epic charting experience required
• Two professional references required for consideration

Responsibilities

• Float pool position covering PICU, NICU, peds medsurg, peds PACU, peds ED boarders, and postpartum/mother-baby units
• Days shift, 4x12 hour shifts from 7:00 to 19:00, 36 or 48 hours per week
• 52-week assignment length
• Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed
• Every other weekend and every other holiday required, including 2 of the 3 winter holidays
• Patient ratio of 1:2
• Must float within scope of practice per facility float policy
• Epic EMR experience required
• Provide pediatric critical care nursing across multiple float units based on clinical scope and need
• Maximum 40 hours of RTO per 13-week contract period, with no additional RTO approved after offer acceptance
• No RTO approved during the first 2 weeks of the assignment
• Any vacation time between sign date and start date must be disclosed to arrange an appropriate start date
• Previous UVA permanent staff or internal/external travelers must have a 1-year separation plus leadership approval before returning
• External travelers cannot exceed 365 total assignment days and are not eligible to return once that limit is reached
• No radius rule applies to this position
• First-time travelers may be considered if they have prior NICU/PICU float pool experience
