Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced PICU RN for a night shift assignment in Alaska. You must hold AK RN licensure and PALS certification, with BLS; pediatric ICU or pediatric floor nursing experience is required. Ventilator management, central line care, IV therapy, and pediatric dosage calculations are preferred skills.

Schedule is 3×12 hour nights (7:00 PM–7:00 AM) with every other weekend. Travel housing and licensure reimbursements are provided.

Qualifications

• Active AK RN license required prior to start; compact license accepted
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Required certifications: BLS, PALS
• NRP certification copy required with submission
• Pediatric ICU and pediatric floor nursing experience required
• Ventilator management, central line care, IV therapy, and pediatric dosage calculations preferred
• Hemodynamic monitoring and interpretation/management of dysrhythmias preferred
• Teaching hospital and Trauma Level II experience preferred
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred

Responsibilities

• PICU unit within an acute care hospital
• Patient ratios are 1:2 in PICU, with ventilated patients typically 1:1 due to unit layout
• Support staff includes CNAs and a med clerk, with a charge nurse who typically carries no patient load
• Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 PM-7:00 AM)
• Every other weekend required
• No on-call requirements
• Floating required within scope to NICU and Peds units
• Block scheduling accommodated
• Uses Cerner charting system, EPIC experience preferred
• Provide direct patient care in a Magnet-designated acute care hospital with 152 staffed beds
• Must be culturally sensitive to the Native population served
• Navy scrub color required (L&D/OR scrubs provided by facility)
• Must be willing to work 2 of 3 major holidays
• Local candidates not accepted; must reside at least 100 miles from the facility
• Former staff must have been separated from the facility for at least 2 years before returning as a traveler
• COVID vaccination compliance required
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Onsite and annual training modules required, averaging 4-5 hours
