Job summary

American Traveler is seeking a Registered Nurse - PACU for a night shift inpatient PACU/Preop role in California. CA RN license and ICU or ED experience required; rotation and travel options may apply.

You will perform preop and PACU care, manage airway, sedation, and monitor dysrhythmias, collaborating with surgical teams across ENT, Orthopedics, Gynecology, Urology, and Plastics; travel and licensure support provided.

Qualifications

• Active California RN license required.
• Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
• ICU or ED experience required.
• Meditech charting experience preferred but not required.
• Proficiency in Phase I and Phase II PACU recovery care.
• Experience with procedural sedation, conscious sedation, and MAC.
• Airway management including intubation/extubation/LMA-ET management.
• Dysrhythmia recognition and management.
• Pediatric PACU care competency.
• Knowledge of malignant hyperthermia and hypothermia protocols.
• Experience with blood product administration and IV therapy.
• Ability to perform pre-op assessments, education, and discharge instructions.
• Experience obtaining 12-lead EKG/ECG and operative consents.

Responsibilities

• Inpatient PACU/Preop Day setting.
• Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts from 19:00-7:30.
• Majority of patients are low acuity.
• Call and weekend rotation required, approx. every other or every third weekend.
• About 3 call shifts per six-week schedule period.
• RTO requests must be submitted upfront with the initial profile.
• Floating required to PAT, Main PACU, and GI Lab.
• Cancellations may lead to a DNR designation.
• Travelers matching schedules not guaranteed; floating based on facility needs.
• Former permanent employees must be separated for 365 days before returning as a traveler.
• Annual training modules average 6 hours to complete.
• Care across ENT, Orthopedics, Gynecology, Urology, and Plastics.
