Job summary
American Traveler Staffing Professionals is hiring an experienced RN for an Operating Room travel assignment in Des Moines, IA. The role requires 24+ months of OR circulating experience and Trauma Level II at a Level I trauma center.
Shifts are days, 12-hour rotations (3x12s), 36 hours per week, 13 weeks with potential extension. Epic EMR experience is required and you will float across Iowa Methodist campuses. Competitive weekly pay of $2,619 with comprehensive travel benefits.
Qualifications
- Active IA RN license or Multistate license
- Current BLS certification (AHA/ARC)
- Minimum 24 months of OR circulating experience
- Scrub experience preferred
- Experience in General, DaVinci Robotics, Pediatrics, and Trauma cases
- Epic EMR experience within the last 3 years
- Trauma Level II experience required; Level I preferred
- Must have completed travel assignment recently; first-time travelers not accepted
Responsibilities

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Operating Room position requiring 24+ months of OR circulating experience and Trauma Level II experience at a Level I trauma center in Des Moines, IA.
- Level I trauma center Operating Room with 16 OR suites, typically running 12-14 rooms
- 16-bed unit with 1:1 patient ratios
- Average caseload of 35-50 cases per day with turnover expectations under 20 minutes
- 3 Davinci robots on site, Stealth technology for neuro navigation, and Synthes/Stryker equipment for ortho trauma cases
- Service lines include Cardiac/PV, Neuro, ortho trauma, robotics, GYN, urology, general, pediatrics, transplants, and lower-volume ENT and plastics cases
- Both scrub and circulate responsibilities preferred
- Uses Epic EMR
- Days shift, 3x12s, 6:30a-7p, working weekends (Saturday and Sunday) with rotating Fridays or Mondays
- No on-call except weekend call which runs Friday end of shift through Monday 0630
- Required to float across Iowa Methodist MC, Iowa Lutheran, and Iowa Methodist campuses
- 13-week assignment
- Active IA RN license or Compact/Multistate license required
- Current BLS certification (AHA or ARC) required
- Minimum 24 months of current Operating Room circulating experience required, hospital/medical center experience prioritized
- Scrub experience highly preferred
- Required experience in General, DaVinci Robotics, Pediatrics, and Trauma cases
- Additional experience in Neurology, orthopedics (trauma), gynecology, urology, transplants, plastics, ENT, or Vascular cases highly preferred
- Epic EMR experience within the previous 3 years required
- Trauma Level II experience required; Trauma Level I experience highly preferred
- Must have completed a travel assignment within the previous 15 months; first-time travelers not accepted
- Valid driver's license required for consideration
- Professional reference from a supervisor, charge nurse, nurse manager, director, CNO, or COO within the past 24 months preferred
- Circulate and/or scrub for a high-volume, high-acuity surgical caseload across multiple specialties
- Scrubs are provided
- Must work 1-2 of the 3 upcoming summer holidays (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day) unless the unit is closed
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
- Past UnityPoint Health employees (FTE or PRN float pool) are ineligible to work travel assignments in another market within 12 months of separation; this restriction does not apply to those who previously worked travel assignments at UnityPoint Health
