Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced NICU RN for a 13-week travel assignment in Maryland. The role requires an active MD or Compact RN license, BLS, CPI, and a minimum of 2 years NICU experience with tracheostomy and ventilator management skills.

Responsibilities include providing NICU care for premature infants, NG tube management, and wound assessments in a pediatric hospital. Shifts are 3x12 with every other weekend and travel-pay considerations apply.

Qualifications

  • Active RN license (Maryland or Compact)
  • BLS certification (AHA)
  • CPI certification typically required (Calm Every Storm online accepted)
  • NRP or AAP certification accepted
  • Minimum 2 years NICU experience
  • Tracheostomy care and management experience
  • Ventilator management experience
  • IV therapy/phlebotomy, central and peripheral line care, TPN/lipids, and pediatric dosage calculations
  • Respiratory care including BiPAP/CPAP and oxygen delivery systems
  • Neurologic conditions including seizure disorders and anti-seizure medications
  • Cardiovascular dysrhythmia interpretation and management preferred
  • Teaching hospital and Trauma Level I experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Work in the NICU/Pediatric Med-Surg unit of a pediatric hospital
  • Care for premature infants and NICU cases (AOP, ROP, BLD/CLD, cardiac defects, NAS)
  • Provide NICU nursing care including feedings, NG tube management, wound assessment
  • Utilize infection prevention practices including PPE and isolation precautions
  • Assist with procedures such as lumbar punctures and emergency medications administration
  • Manage blood products and holiday coverage as scheduled
  • Travelers may float within scope with no restrictions and no on-call duties
  • Rotate day/night shifts on a 3x12 schedule (7:00 AM-7:30 PM / 7:00 PM-7:30 AM)
  • Every other weekend coverage and 50+ mile travel pay considerations

  • Meditech charting system experience preferred
  • Rotating day/night shifts on a 3x12 schedule (7:00 AM-7:30 PM / 7:00 PM-7:30 AM)
  • Every other weekend required
  • Floating required within the specialty
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive NICU nursing care including feedings (bottle, breast, gavage), NG tube insertion/management, and wound assessment
  • Utilize infection prevention practices including isolation precautions and PPE
  • Assist with procedures such as lumbar punctures
  • Manage administration of blood and blood products and emergency medications
  • Holiday coverage required as scheduled
  • Travelers are given priority for floating within scope with no restrictions
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Candidates must live 50+ miles from the facility to be considered for travel pay unless otherwise specified
  • Returning staff must have a 12-month break before returning as a traveler
  • Returning travelers typically must have a 6-month break from the health system before starting a new assignment
