Job summary

American Traveler is seeking a Level III NICU RN for night shift in a teaching hospital setting. Candidate must hold an OH RN license, BLS and NRP certifications, and have NICU experience in Level III/IV units.

Expect 3x12h nights (19:00-07:30) with 1:2–3 patient loads and responsibilities spanning respiratory support, line care, and neonatal interventions. Experience with EPIC documentation and Pyxis medication system is required, along with strong infection control practices.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Level III NICU care for neonates from 22 weeks gestation and up
• Night shift 19:00–07:30 (3x12h)
• Patient ratio 1:2–3
• Care for respiratory distress, glucose management, surgical/cardiac neonates
• Use Pyxis system for IV vasopressors, surfactants, and steroids
• Document in EPIC
• Use SBAR for comms with team and families
• Manage arterial/central lines and UAC/UVC in neonates
• Oversee ventilator settings and mode adjustments
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team
• Support complex surgical and cardiac cases in teaching hospital
• RTO and travel policies apply
• Nationwide Children’s Hospital experience noted
• Fingerprints clearance per Ohio rules

Job description

American Traveler is hiring a Level III NICU RN for night shift in a teaching hospital setting, requiring NRP certification and experience with neonates under 24-28 weeks gestation.

Requirements

• Active OH or compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration
• Current BLS and NRP certifications required
• Minimum 1 year of NICU experience required
• Level III or Level IV NICU setting experience required
• Competency in cardiovascular dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Proficient in gastrointestinal feeding methods and management of oral/nasogastric/nasojejunal tubes
• Expertise in infection control measures, isolation precautions, and PPE use
• IV therapy experience including umbilical artery and vein catheter management
• Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
• Two professional references required, with at least one from a manager/director or supervisor; charge RN acceptable for second reference; no coworker references accepted

Responsibilities

• Level III NICU caring for neonates from 22 weeks gestation and above, including those under 24-28 weeks
• Night shift schedule (3x12 hours), 19:00-7:30
• Patient ratio of 1:2-3
• Care includes respiratory distress, glucose management, and neonates requiring surgical or cardiac interventions
• Uses Pyxis medication system to administer IV vasopressors, surfactants, and steroids
• Documentation in EPIC
• Utilizes SBAR communication method with healthcare providers and families
• Performs arterial line management, central line care, UAC/UVC management, and neonatal abstinence syndrome interventions
• Oversees ventilator settings and adjustments (AC/PC/SIMV/CPAP/BIPAP/PEEP)
• Collaborates with multidisciplinary team including NP, interpretation services, pharmacy, physical therapy, radiology, respiratory services, social services, and unit secretary
• Provide comprehensive neonatal care in a teaching hospital environment supporting complex surgical and cardiac cases
• Candidates with prior experience at Nationwide Children's Hospital will be given special consideration
• Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting promptly after signing contract due to strict compliance timelines
• Local candidates are accepted at the same rate
• RTO must be submitted with application and built into contract, limited to 7 days or less
• Former employees eligible for travel assignment after 6 months away from the facility
• Current employees are ineligible to be hired as a traveler at any Ohio State University hospital location
• First-time travelers are not being considered for this position
