Required certifications include ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, with TNCC or TCAR before start. Travel experience and Cerner charting proficiency are expected; a housing allowance and travel reimbursements are provided.

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Tele RN with at least 2 years of experience and a CA RN license for a 13-week day shift assignment.

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required (EMSA not accepted)
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Tele or Telemetry experience required
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
• TNCC or TCAR certification required before start
• CPI or MAB certification preferred, required if extension needed
• Cerner charting experience required
• Previous travel nursing experience required
• Skilled in IV therapy including central line, PICC line, and port access/management
• Experienced in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Experienced in respiratory care including BiPAP/CPAP, chest tubes, and tracheostomy management
• Experienced in neurological care including CVA, TBI, and spinal cord injury management
• Experienced with renal failure and pre/post hemodialysis management
• Experienced with IV insulin protocols and heparin protocols
• Recent Nursys report and a supervisory reference required for consideration
• All time off requests must be submitted at the time of application

Responsibilities

• Med/Surg Tele unit with a daily census of 18 and 21 beds
• Patient population ranges from adolescents to geriatrics
• 1:5 patient ratio
• Day shift schedule, three 12-hour shifts from 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM
• Required to float to telemetry units as needed
• Every other weekend coverage required
• Uses Pyxis, Cerner, and SBAR communication systems
• May float to a nearby hospital approximately 15 minutes away with advance notice and a paid orientation
• Provide direct patient care for a diverse Med/Surg Tele population with complex medical and surgical needs
• Participate in rapid response and code team activities as needed
• Complete a 1-hour CA Harassment training course prior to or during orientation
• Complete standard onboarding modules, typically 4 hours, which may be done before start or during orientation
• Local candidates accepted at the same pay rate
• First-time travelers may be considered given required experience and certifications are met
