Job summary

American Traveler, LLC. is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg-Tele unit on a 13-week night assignment in North Carolina. The ideal candidate holds an active NC or compact RN license and has at least 2 years’ Med/Surg-Tele experience, with BLS and NIHSS certifications current.

OCN and chemo admin are preferred. The role requires strong med-surg floating skills and proficiency in dysrhythmia interpretation and emergency response.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care on Med/Surg-Tele unit (36 beds) with 1:6 ratio
• Work night shift: 12-hour shifts 18:45–07:15
• Float to all med-surg areas as needed
• Utilize Epic and Pyxis systems in daily workflow
• Support patient care during a 13-week assignment
• Respond to emergencies and cardiac monitoring requirements
• Complete unit orientation (24 hours) and ongoing weekly schedule
• Adhere to holiday coverage requirements and start-up modules

Job description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Med/Surg-Tele position requiring 2 years of experience and NC or compact RN licensure for a 13-week night shift assignment.

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license (pending license/certs OK at submission)
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required, Med/Surg-Tele background
• Current certifications: BLS and NIHSS required; OCN and Chemo Administration preferred
• Strong med-surg background required for floating
• Skilled in interpretation of dysrhythmias and use of Rapid Response/Code teams
• Experience with blood product administration, central line care/management, peripheral line care/management, and starting/maintaining IVs
• Skilled in nasal cannula and non-invasive airway management
• Knowledge of isolation precautions and PPE use
• Epic charting experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Med/Surg-Tele unit with 36 beds and a 1:6 patient ratio
• Night shift, 12-hour shifts from 18:45 to 07:15
• Every other weekend required
• Float requirement to all areas holding med-surg patients
• Uses Epic and Pyxis systems
• 13-week assignment length
• Provide direct patient care on a Med/Surg-Tele unit, including cardiac monitoring and emergency response
• Unit orientation is 24 hours, with weekly orientation schedule
• Navy scrubs required
• Pre-start modules required (8-10 hours for acute care roles), completed online and annually
• Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
• RTO up to 7 days may be auto-approved (excluding holidays); no RTO allowed during first week of assignment; additional RTO requires facility approval and cannot be requested after signing
• First-time travelers welcome to apply
• Local candidates accepted at a lower rate within 50 miles of the facility
• Former Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before applying, with facility rehire approval required
• Travel pairs allowed if placed on different units and disclosed at submission
• Testing must be completed within 48 hours of signing, with lab visit required within the same timeframe
