• Must pass EKG testing prior to start.

Responsibilities

• Med/Surg Tele unit in an acute care hospital setting.
• Night shift, 4x12 hours, 1845-0715.
• Floating to other MS units and main campus as needed.
• Care for patients with diabetes, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, CHF, UTI, and other conditions.
• Scrubs must be navy blue or white.
• Contract staff may be assigned to disaster response teams.

Job description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg Tele RN for a night shift position requiring 2 years of experience and NIHSS certification.

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license required
• Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required; ACLS preferred
• Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg Tele experience required
• Charge nurse experience preferred
• Community hospital experience preferred
• Epic charting experience preferred
• Experience with dysrhythmia interpretation and management, telemetry monitoring, and Rapid Response/Code teams
• Skilled in IV therapy, phlebotomy, central and peripheral line management, and PICC line care
• Experience managing bowel obstruction, colostomy/ileostomy care, and feeding tubes
• Competent in respiratory care including BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management
• Experience with wound care/wound vac and isolation precautions/PPE
• Experience administering Heparin, Insulin, and PCA medications
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start

Responsibilities

• Med/Surg Tele unit in an acute care hospital setting
• Patient ratio of 1:6
• Night shift, 4x12 hours, 1845-0715
• 36 or 48 hour contracts accepted, 13-26 week contract lengths
• Floating required to other MS units and to the main campus (New Hanover Regional Medical Center, approximately 32 minutes away)
• Every other weekend required
• No on-call requirements
• Uses Pyxis, EPIC, and SBAR communication tools
• Must be able to work holidays
• No blocked scheduling requests accepted except for weekend blocks (Fri-Mon)
• Care for patients with diagnoses including diabetes, dementia, COVID, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, CHF, UTI, renal failure, hypertension, and various surgical recovery cases
• Scrubs must be navy blue or white
• 24 hours of unit orientation provided
• Contract staff may be assigned to a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and required to report during catastrophic events or disasters
• Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
• Up to 7 days of RTO may be auto-approved per contract, excluding holidays, with no RTO allowed during the first week of assignment
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Travel pairs are allowed if assigned to different units
• Local candidates accepted at local rate within 50 miles of the facility
• Previous Novant Health or New Hanover employees (PERM/PRN/EP) must wait 12 months before applying and disclose prior employment details
