Job summary

American Traveler, LLC. is seeking a Med/Surg Tele RN for a night shift on a busy acute care unit in California. CA licensure and 2+ years of telemetry experience are required to manage 47-bed surgical telemetry with 1:4/1:5 patient ratios and 12-hour nights.

Proficiency in Cerner EMR is preferred; two references and a valid driver’s license are required for consideration.

Qualifications

• Active CA RN license (Standard or Compact) required; pending licenses not accepted.
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience.
• Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS.
• Cerner EMR experience preferred.
• Telemetry and MedSurg experience required.
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration.
• Two professional references: one supervisor from within last 12 months and one peer/supervisor from last 3 years with dates and rehire eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Acute care Surgical Telemetry unit with 47 beds.
• Patient population includes post-op surgical patients not requiring higher level of care, including bariatric, ortho, and spine cases, plus general telemetry.
• Patient ratios of 1:4 telemetry and 1:5 MedSurg.
• Nurse aide ratios of 1:12 days and 1:14 nights.
• Charge nurse does not carry a patient assignment; resource RN may be available.
• 12-hour night shifts (1830-0700 and 0630-1900).
• Every other weekend required.
• Floating to MedSurg 6, Tele 7 (within skill set), and Rehab; travelers float first.
• Uses Cerner EMR; hospitalist/intensivist in house; RT and Pharmacy 24/7.
• No IV team on unit; vents not used though bipap/cpap may be used at night.
• Nurses read telemetry strips and manage Heparin/blood drips.
• Provide direct patient care on a busy surgical telemetry unit.
• One shift of floor-specific orientation provided with a preceptor.
• Holiday coverage on a rotating basis with core staff.
• Scrub color: Navy Blue for RNs.
• Candidates may not have been directly employed by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility within past year.
• Candidates previously employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered.
