Job summary

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position on nights requiring a VA or compact license, Epic experience, and prior Med/Surg background.

The 26-bed unit operates nights (19:00–07:00) with a 13-week contract and options for 36 or 48 hours weekly. Expect a 1:4 patient ratio, floating as needed, and diverse complex cases; UVA travel rules apply.

Qualifications

• Active VA or compact RN license required; license in hand by start date.
• BLS certification required; ACLS preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required.
• Epic charting experience required.
• BSN preferred.
• Teaching hospital and Trauma Level I/II experience preferred.
• Skills in respiratory care, IV therapy, wound care, cardiac monitoring, and renal management preferred.

Responsibilities

• 26-bed General Medicine Unit treating respiratory, endocrine, cardiac, immune/infectious disease, and renal conditions.
• Night shift, 4x12 hours (19:00-07:00).
• 13-week assignment with option for 36 or 48 hours per week.
• Every other weekend required, plus 2 of the 3 winter holidays.
• Block scheduling not guaranteed.
• Patient ratio of 1:4.
• Must adhere to facility float policy, floating within scope of practice as needed.
• Care for patients with a variety of complex disease processes across multiple body systems.
• Complete specialty-specific orientation modules during onboarding.
• Unable to approve time off around Christmas; maximum 40 hours of RTO per contract.
• No radius restriction for this unit.
• Previous UVA permanent staff or travelers must have a 1-year separation and leadership approval before returning.
• External travelers cannot exceed 365 total assignment days at this facility.
• First-time travelers may be considered for this role.
