Job summary

American Traveler is seeking a Med/Surg Tele RN for a rural acute care hospital in Texas. The role requires a TX license or Compact licensure and 18+ months of Med/Surg Tele experience, with BLS (AHA) certification. Strong reading of telemetry strips, bilateral teamwork, and dependable time management are essential.

12-hour day shifts (7a-7p) with every other weekend/holiday; travel nursing experience preferred. The unit supports telemetry monitoring, with PCTs and supervisory staff available.

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Tele RN for a rural acute care hospital requiring 18+ months of recent Med/Tele experience and a TX or compact RN license.

Requirements

• Active TX or Compact RN license required
• BLS (AHA) certification required
• Minimum 18 months of recent Med/Tele experience required
• Rural hospital experience preferred
• Strong communication and time management skills required
• Must be able to read telemetry strips
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility

Responsibilities

• Acute care Med/Tele unit (K3) in a rural hospital setting with 25 beds
• Patient ratios of 5-6:1
• Common diagnoses include CHF, diabetes, pneumonia, CKD, and general med/surg tele conditions
• RNs must be able to read telemetry strips, though tele monitor techs are present on the unit
• PCTs on staff at a 12:1 ratio; Charge Nurses, House Supervisors, and Nurse Educators available for support
• RNs titrate Heparin drips only
• Care for CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow patients
• 12-hour day shifts (7a-7p) with every other weekend and holiday requirements
• No call or standby requirements
• Floating required to all med/surg units and possibly to PCU for tele holds prior to transfer
• Currently uses Paragon charting system, transitioning to EPIC in October 2026
• Block scheduling cannot be accommodated; scheduling is determined by facility needs
• Provide direct patient care on a busy med/tele unit within a community reliant on traveling nurses
• Work as part of a team with consistent long-term unit leadership, though staff continuity may vary
• Complete department-specific orientation with 2 shadow/orientation shifts
• Navy blue scrub color required
• Candidates may not have been directly employed by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year
• Candidates previously employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
