Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele travel position in Indiana. The role requires an active IN license, 2 years of RN experience, and certifications including ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS. Cerner charting is preferred, with staff-level duties on a MS/Tele unit and a 1:5/6 ratio.

Shifts are nights, 4x12s (17:00–05:30) with every other weekend, and travel housing and licensure reimbursements are provided. First-time travelers are welcome to apply.

Qualifications

• 2 years RN experience required; screened at 1.5 years.
• Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS.
• Cerner charting experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Staff acute care MS/Tele unit in a hospital setting.
• Care for adult/geriatric medical-surgical population.
• Maintain 1:5/6 staffing ratio; night shift 4x12s (5pm–5:30am).
• Work every other weekend; travel-friendly, floating as needed.
• Utilize Cerner charting; provide med/surg and telemetry care.
• Must work 2 of 3 major holidays; potential RTO rules apply.

Job description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring 2 years of experience and IN or compact RN license.

Requirements

• Active IN or compact RN license required in hand prior to start
• Current certifications required: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required (screened at 1.5 years)
• Cerner charting experience preferred
• Experience preferred with thoracentesis, COPD exacerbation, pneumonia, CVA, hypoxia, electrolyte imbalances, hypertension, small bowel obstruction, altered mental status, and renal failure
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred
• Skills needed include IV therapy, phlebotomy, central and peripheral line care, PICC line management, respiratory care (BiPAP/CPAP, chest tubes, HFNC, ABG interpretation), cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia management, telemetry, feeding tube care, and insulin administration
• Nursing degree from a university accredited by ACEN or CCNE at time of graduation required
• 2 supervisor references required
• SSN and DOB required for consideration

Responsibilities

• Short-term acute care hospital setting on the MS/Tele unit
• Adult/geriatric medical-surgical patient population
• Staffing ratio of 1:5/6
• Night shift, 4x12 hour shifts from 17:00-5:30
• Every other weekend required
• Floating required within the hospital or to a nearby affiliate hospital
• Cerner charting system used
• Provide med/surg and telemetry nursing care to an adult/geriatric patient population
• Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
• Up to 5 days of non-holiday RTO can be auto-approved; additional time off requires facility approval
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local IN residents are not accepted for this position
• Red scrub tops with black pants required
• Former IU Health perm or PRN employees must wait 12 months before applying as a traveler
• Travelers with 12 months of accrued travel employment within IU Health must take a consecutive break to reset eligibility: 3 months for out-of-state residents and 6 months for in-state residents
