Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Orthopedics Med/Surg unit in North Carolina. Requires travel nursing and charge nurse experience with NC or compact RN licensure.

The role features a night shift (3x12) with a 1:5-6 patient ratio, floating to Cone Health campuses as needed, and no on-call requirements. Epic EMR experience and BLS are mandatory. A comprehensive benefits package and housing/travel provisions apply.

Qualifications

• Active NC or compact RN license in hand at time of consideration
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience
• Previous travel nursing experience
• Previous Charge RN experience
• EPIC EMR experience
• IV therapy, phlebotomy, and peripheral line care/management experience
• Experience starting and maintaining IVs
• Experience with oxygen tanks and tracheostomy care/management
• Experience with colostomy/ileostomy and feeding tube care/management
• Experience with continuous bladder irrigation and pre/post hemodialysis management
• Experience with CVA and dysrhythmia interpretation
• Telemetry remote monitoring experience
• Isolation precautions/PPE and wound care/wound vac experience
• Experience in Med/Surg, MS/Tele, Orthopedics, Ortho trauma, and total joint replacement settings
• Must pass a compliance EKG exam with up to two attempts
• Valid driver's license for address verification

Responsibilities

• 29-bed unit with orthopedic and medical surgical needs
• Telemetry monitoring available on the unit
• On-unit physical therapy gym for in-unit therapy
• High volume of total joint replacements and fracture repairs
• Moderate volume of other surgical and inpatient patients
• Night shift 3x12 hours (7:00 PM–7:30 AM)
• Every other weekend (Sat/Sun)
• No on-call requirements
• Floating to other Cone Health campuses as needed
• Charge RN duties as needed with patient load
• Patient ratio 1:5-6, six-week scheduling blocks
• Charge nurses work with RNs and LPNs
• Provide care for adult to geriatric orthopedic/medical surgical patients
• Perform charge nurse duties including load management
• Complete onboarding modules (2–4 hours)
• Residence requirement: at least 50 miles from facility; no local rates

Responsibilities

• 29-bed unit caring for patients from adulthood through geriatrics with orthopedic and medical surgical needs
• Telemetry monitoring available on the unit
• On-unit physical therapy gym allows patients to receive therapy without leaving the floor
• High volume of total joint replacements, fracture repairs, and kyphoplasties
• Moderate volume of other surgical procedures and inpatient/24-hour observation medical patients
• Night shift, 3x12 hours, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
• Every other weekend required (Saturday and Sunday)
• No on-call requirements
• Floating required as needed, including to any Cone Health campus
• RNs will be required to work Charge RN shifts as needed
• Patient ratio of 1:5-6
• Schedules built every six weeks according to unit demands with set weekend schedules
• Charge nurses carry a patient load and work alongside a mix of RNs and LPNs
• Provide nursing care for orthopedic and medical surgical patients across the adult through geriatric population
• Perform charge nurse duties as needed, including carrying a patient load
• Complete unit-based orientation modules during onboarding, averaging 2-4 hours
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility; no local rates apply
• No local candidates within a 50-mile radius will be accepted
• RTO must be submitted with the initial application; no post-submission RTO accepted
