Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical Surgical Oncology unit, requiring at least 1 year of oncology or med/surg experience and an MO or compact RN license. BLS/ACLS required; BSN preferred. RN with chemotherapy admin and phlebotomy skills is ideal.

Travel assignment with housing allowance and travel reimbursement. Position features day shifts (7:00 AM–7:30 PM), no on-call, and 1:4–5 patient ratios (3:1 for BMT).

Qualifications

• Active MO license required (or compact license)
• Current BLS and ACLS certification required
• BSN preferred
• Minimum 1 year of nursing experience required; oncology or med/surg with oncology patients accepted
• BMT experience not required
• Relias EKG exam required
• Skilled in IV starts, port and central line access, and trach care
• Chemotherapy administration/monitoring experience preferred but not required
• Phlebotomy skills required
• Experience with breast, lung, and pancreatic cancer preferred
• Stem cell therapy experience preferred but not required

Responsibilities

• Work in the Medical Surgical Oncology unit of a Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma teaching hospital
• Care for patients with solid tumors including lung, breast, pancreatic cancers, leukemia and bone cancers
• Patient ratios of 1:4-5, or 1:3 for BMT patients on all shifts
• Average patient length of stay is 3-5 days
• Day shift schedule, 3x12 hours from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM
• Every other weekend required
• Float within service line as needed to meet facility needs
• No on-call requirements
• Uses EPIC charting system
• Utilizes CAD pumps for infusion management
• Responsibilities include administering chemotherapy (for certified staff), IV therapy, port and central line access, trach care, and feeding tube management
• No ventilator care required on this unit
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Must comply with facial hair fit-testing standards for respirator use
• No more than 7 days of RTO allowed per 13-week contract, with no RTO permitted during the first week of the assignment
• First-time travelers are accepted for this position
• Local candidates within a 75-mile radius are not accepted
• Standard travelers may work up to 18 months at this facility, followed by a required 3-month break in service
• Permanent BJC or Saint Luke's employees must wait 1 year before returning to any BJC facility as a traveler
