Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position requiring at least 1 year of experience and BLS certification, with first-time travelers welcome to apply.

Details

Acute care Med/Surg unit with 48 beds
Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:5-7 on days and 1:6-8 on nights
Common diagnoses include pneumonia, UTI, altered mental status, GI bleed, alcohol withdrawal, and falls/weakness
12-hour day shifts with every other weekend required
Uses EPIC EMR
Titration of common drips such as heparin, bumex, and lasix required, excluding cardiac drips
Charge nurses take patient assignments on day shift when two are scheduled, and on night shift only when two are present
PCTs support the unit at an average ratio of 1:10-12, assisting with vitals, EKGs, bathing, feeding, and positioning
Respiratory Therapy manages ventilators, BiPap, CPAP, and high flow O2, with RNs responsible only for monitoring
Telemetry monitor techs handle strip reading; RNs are not required to interpret telemetry
Floating required to other Med/Surg, Med/Surg-Tele, or IMC units for lower acuity patients
No self-scheduling or block scheduling; schedule created by the unit manager
Holiday coverage required per rotation schedule
No call or standby requirements

Requirements

Active WV or Compact RN license required

Additional Information

Provide direct patient care including assessments, medication administration, and coordination with RT and PCT staff
1 day of orientation with an educator/computer systems training and 1 day with a preceptor
Navy blue scrub color required for RNs
First-time travelers are welcome to apply
Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to qualify for travel positions
Travelers who previously worked at any WVU Medicine facility must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than a year without taking a required 2-year break
Manager will work with staff on requested time off (RTO), though flexibility is expected to help fill scheduling gaps
