Job summary

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a 13-week acute care assignment in Illinois. Requires active IL RN license, BLS/ACLS, and 2+ years of nursing experience; travel experience preferred. The unit includes two sections, with nurse-patient ratios of 1:5 days and 1:5-6 nights. EPIC EMR and Phillips telemetry are used; there may be nursing float to ICU or Ottawa Campus with notice.

Qualifications

• Active IL RN license required.
• BLS and ACLS certification (AHA) required; PALS preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience preferred.
• Previous travel nursing experience preferred.
• RNs are not required to titrate drips.

Responsibilities

• Acute care Med Surg unit with two sections: 2 South (18 beds) and 3 South (22 beds).
• Nurse to patient ratios of 1:5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights.
• PCT support with ratios of 1:8-10 days, 1:9-10 evenings, and 1:10-12 nights.
• Patient population includes pneumonia, heart failure, sepsis, COPD, urologic, surgical, total joint, general surgery, and occasional pediatric respiratory cases.
• Charge Nurse and Admin Supervisor present on each shift, with Charge Nurse taking 1-2 patients.
• RT equipment includes home-regimen Bi-pap (stable, alert patients) and high-flow oxygen.
• Tele/Monitor Techs available with Phillips telemetry monitors and virtual central monitoring; RNs read their own strips.
• 12-hour day shifts, 0700-1930.
• Every other weekend required.
• Holiday rotation required.
• May float to ICU for general acute overflow or to Ottawa Campus (25 miles away) with at least 2 hours notice.
• Uses EPIC EMR.
• Provide nursing care including foley care, CHG bathing, and oral care with PCT collaboration.
• Maintain 3x daily touchpoints with PCTs to review plan of care and ensure cares are performed.
• Monitor telemetry strips independently.
• Troubleshoot RT equipment as needed.
• Unit-specific orientation typically lasts 3 shifts.
• Solid color scrubs required, no prints.
• Low census may be called with 4-hour notice, re-evaluated every 4 hours.
• Local candidates accepted; reduced rate applies for permanent addresses within 50 miles of the facility.
• No radius rule restricts eligibility for this position.
• First-time travelers may be considered.
