Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Med/Surg RN for a night shift on an adult/geriatric unit. Prior travel nursing experience and the ability to interpret cardiac rhythms are essential. You will work 3x12-hour nights (19:00-07:00) with 1:5 to 1:6 patient ratios and rotating holidays/weekends.

This role requires an active MD RN or Compact licensure, BLS (ACLS preferred), and MEDITECH charting proficiency. Local candidates are welcome; housing and licensure support available.

Qualifications

• Active MD RN license or Compact RN license in hand at time of consideration.
• Current BLS certification; ACLS preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg RN experience.
• Previous travel nursing experience required.
• Minimum 1 year of charge experience.
• Must interpret cardiac rhythms independently.
• MEDITECH charting experience required.
• Strong assessment for high-acuity, multi-patient care.
• Experience with BiPAP/CPAP, chest tubes, oxygen therapy.
• IV therapy, phlebotomy, central/PICC/peripheral lines.
• Blood product administration; wound care and drains.
• Dialysis and renal care experience; seizure/substance withdrawal management.

Responsibilities

• Care for adult/geriatric med-surg patients with varied conditions.
• Manage complex patients with multiple comorbidities pre/post‑op.
• Night shift schedule 19:00–07:00; rotating holidays/weekends.
• Patient ratios of 1:5–6; block scheduling not available.
• Provide cardiac monitoring with rhythm interpretation.
• Manage feeding tubes, heparin protocols, PCA meds.
• Smoke-free facility; complete online training before start.
• Residency proof must match licensure; local candidates accepted.

Requirements

• Experience with wound care, wound vac, and surgical drains
• Experience with pre/post hemodialysis management and renal failure care
• Experience managing seizure disorders and substance withdrawal

• Provide cardiac monitoring with interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• Manage feeding tubes, heparin protocols, and PCA medications
• Smoke-free facility
• Complete pre-start online training modules (approximately 4-5 hours) no later than one week prior to start
• Proof of residency must match candidate licensure
• Accepts local candidates with no radius restriction
• RTO requests reviewed and approved on a per-case basis
