Job summary

American Traveler, LLC. is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical Surgical/Orthopedics assignment in California. CA RN license and 2+ years of RN experience required. Travel nurse experience and BLS are essential, with additional preferred skills in ortho care and complex patient management.

Shifts are 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM (3x12s) with every-other-week weekends and no on-call duties. Local candidates may be offered local rate within a 50-mile radius.

• IV therapy/phlebotomy and IV maintenance skills required.

Responsibilities

• Work in the Medical Surgical/Orthopedics department of a hospital setting.
• Patient ratio of 1:5.
• Day shift schedule, 3x12 hours, 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM.
• Weekend requirement every other week.
• No on-call responsibilities.
• May float to other units within scope of practice, with shuttle service and ~1.5 hours notice.

Job description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Medical Surgical/Orthopedics position requiring a CA RN license and at least 2 years of experience.

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required
• Current BLS certification (AHA or ARC) required
• Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience required
• Community hospital experience preferred
• Travel nursing experience required
• Skills in IV therapy/phlebotomy and starting/maintaining IVs required
• Preferred skills include central line and PICC line management, blood product administration, and peripheral line care
• Preferred respiratory skills such as BiPAP/CPAP management, chest tube care, tracheostomy care, and ABG interpretation
• Preferred experience in wound care/wound vac and isolation precautions/PPE
• Preferred experience in orthopedic care including ortho trauma, total joint replacement, and peripheral nerve block catheters
• Preferred experience with renal failure, surgical drains, and thyroidectomy care
• Preferred neurological/psychiatric experience including CVA, pre/post neurosurgery, spinal cord injury, substance withdrawal, and traumatic brain injury
• Preferred experience with PCA and Heparin administration
• 2 supervisor references obtained within the past year required
• Nursys license verification and certification documentation with valid expiration dates required

• Epic charting system experience preferred
• Serve as the patient's primary nurse, managing overall care from admission to discharge
• Conduct patient assessments, develop individualized care plans, and coordinate care with physicians and other disciplines
• Provide patient and family education, discharge planning, and disease prevention measures
• Delegate and supervise care team members, providing coaching and mentoring as needed
• Participate in quality assurance and improvement initiatives in accordance with regulatory standards
• Act as a role model and resource for new staff, students, and agency personnel
• Local candidates accepted at local rate within a 50-mile radius
• Returning travelers must have a 1-year separation before reapplying
• Maximum RTO of 7 days per contract, with only 1 holiday request allowed per contract
• Holiday coverage required for New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas
• Compliance documents and lab work must be completed within 3-5 days of contract signing
• First-time travelers are not considered for this role
