Job summary

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Labor & Delivery RN for a 13-week acute care assignment in Arizona. The role requires advanced fetal monitoring certification and C-section experience, with an in-house team not providing OB coverage.

Active AZ or Compact RN license is required, along with ACLS, BLS, NRP, and AFM certification. Minimum 3 years of L&D experience and strong fetal monitoring skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NRP, AFM (AWHONN).
• Minimum 3 years Labor & Delivery experience.
• C-section experience required.
• Proficient in fetal monitoring and interventions for distress.
• Experience caring for high-risk OB patients, including pre-eclampsia.

Responsibilities

• Care on Acute care Level 3 trauma facility L&D unit.
• Manage 1-3 births per day; ~830 births/year.
• Nurse-to-patient ratio 1:2; 12-hour shifts (6a-6p, 6p-6a).
• Float to ED or Med-Surg if experienced.
• Provide comprehensive L&D care in absence of in-house OB provider.
• May cross-train with OB/Nursery as needed.
• Orientation Mondays, 8 hours; first-time travelers may be considered.

• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NRP, and Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring (AWHONN AFM)
• Minimum of 3 years of Labor & Delivery experience required
• C-section experience required
• Must be proficient in fetal monitoring and appropriate interventions for fetal distress
• Experience caring for high-risk OB patients, including pre-eclampsia, required
• Strong clinical assessment skills required to manage OB emergencies independently, as OB/Neonatologist is not in-house
• BSN not required

Responsibilities

• Acute care Level 3 trauma facility, Labor & Delivery unit
• Unit includes 7 L&D beds, 2 triage beds, and 10 postpartum beds
• Handles 1-3 births per day, approximately 830 births per year
• Typical nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2
• Uses Allscripts EMR
• 12-hour shifts, rotating days (6a-6p) and nights (6p-6a)
• Minimum of 3 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
• On-call requirement of one shift per 4-week schedule
• May float to Emergency Department or Med-Surg if experienced in those areas
• Must be able to function in both L&D and couplet care settings
• Respiratory Therapist and 24/7 in-house pharmacy support available
• Support staff includes Patient Care Technician, Health Unit Secretary, and OB Scrub Tech
• Provide comprehensive labor and delivery nursing care in a facility without an in-house OB provider, requiring strong independent assessment and emergency response skills
• Nurse manager may occasionally assist with patient care as needed
• Orientation held every Monday, consisting of 8 hours
• First-time travelers may be considered
