Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for Labor & Delivery with a minimum of 3 years in L&D and required certifications (BLS, FHM, NRP). This role demands active Missouri or compact licensure and dual-state licensure readiness, plus travel experience and strong charting on Epic.

The position includes day shifts on a 3x12 schedule, on-call obligations, and float within scope to postpartum units. Providers must meet distance requirements and bring trauma-informed, high-risk obstetric care

Qualifications

Active RN license, Missouri or compact currently in hand
Missouri and Kansas licenses (or compact) required in hand at time of consideration
BLS, FHM, and NRP certifications required
AWHONN certifications preferred
Minimum 3 years of L&D experience required
Full year of in-specialty experience within the past 12 months with no gaps >90 days
Epic charting experience required
Travel experience required
Antepartum, low-risk to high-risk L&D care experience required
Experience with EFM, spiral electrode, IUPC placement, and fetal monitoring
Experience administering Pitocin, magnesium sulfate, antihypertensives, antiseizure meds, insulin drips
Assistance with vaginal and high-risk deliveries; C-sections circulation; hemorrhage/shock management
Patient postpartum care including fundus/lochia/perineum, foley, breastfeeding support
Two professional references (supervisor and charge RN) within past year

Responsibilities

Labor & Delivery unit shared with postpartum unit
Unit with antepartum and intrapartum patients; 11 labor rooms, 5 triage rooms
Postpartum unit has 15 rooms plus 2 flex rooms
Average daily census 7–10; 28 rooms and 33 beds
Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:1 (may be 1:2/1:3 for certain cases)
Day shift 3x12 hour shifts 6:45am–7:15pm
On-call 2 shifts per 6-week schedule
2 shifts per 6-week schedule on-call
Float within scope to postpartum/other units
May float between departments/facilities as needed
Uses Epic charting system
Uses PeriWatch and Avalon monitors
Provide comprehensive antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum care
Manage high-risk conditions (HELLP, preeclampsia, preterm, VBAC/TOL)
Assist with high-risk and vaginal deliveries; circulate for C-sections
Newborn care: radiant warmer and resuscitation as needed
Pain management: epidural and PCA administration
Not required to work OB triage under this assignment
First-time travelers not accepted
Home address at least 75 miles from facility; no local candidates
Maximum 7 days RTO; time off finalized at consideration
Travel partners not accepted
Returning staff require 3-month break after 18 months; internal policies for Saint Luke's/BJC

Both Kansas and Missouri licenses (or compact) required in hand at time of consideration due to potential floating requirements
BLS, FHM, and NRP certifications required
AWHONN Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced certifications preferred
Minimum 3 years of L&D experience required
Must have a full year of in-specialty experience within the past 12 months with no employment gaps greater than 90 days in the past year
Epic charting experience required
Community hospital experience preferred
LDRP experience preferred; LD/LDR experience will also be considered
Travel experience required
Experience with antepartum, low-risk, and high-risk L&D care required
Experience with EFM, spiral electrode placement, IUPC placement, and internal/external fetal monitoring required
Experience administering Pitocin, magnesium sulfate, antihypertensives, antiseizure medications, and insulin drips required
Experience assisting with vaginal and high-risk deliveries, circulating for C-sections, and managing hemorrhage/shock required
Experience with postpartum care including fundus/lochia/perineum assessment, foley catheter management, and breastfeeding support required

Postpartum unit has 15 rooms plus 2 flex rooms for labor or postpartum patients
Average daily census of 7-10 with 28 rooms and 33 beds total
Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:1, but may be 1:2 or 1:3 for antepartum or cervical ripening patients based on acuity
Day shift schedule, 3x12 hour shifts from 6:45am to 7:15pm
Weekend requirement of 4-5 shifts per 6-week schedule, including at least 2 Sunday night shifts or 2 Friday day shifts per 6-week period
On-call requirement of 2 shifts per 6-week schedule
Floating required within scope to postpartum unit for couplet or postpartum-only care
May float between departments, units, and facilities as needed
Uses Epic charting system
Uses PeriWatch fetal monitoring application and Phillips Avalon fetal monitors
Provide comprehensive care across antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum patient populations
Manage high-risk conditions including HELLP syndrome, pre-eclampsia, preterm labor, VBAC/TOL, and multiple gestations
Assist with high-risk and vaginal deliveries, circulate for C-sections, and provide immediate newborn care including radiant warmer use and neonatal resuscitation
Support pain management including epidural and PCA administration
Not required to work OB triage under this assignment
First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
Home address must be at least 75 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
Maximum RTO of 7 days, with all time off requests finalized at time of consideration
Travel partners are not accepted for this assignment
Returning staff must have a 3-month break in service after 18 months of employment, and permanent BJC/Saint Luke's employees must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
