Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery RN for a night shift assignment in California. CA licensure and travel nursing experience are required, with multiple certifications in-hand.

The role involves night shifts (19:00–07:30), care for diverse age groups, and high-acuity obstetric care, with comprehensive benefits and a generous housing/travel package.

Qualifications

• Active CA RN license in-hand at time of application.
• Current ACLS, BLS, NRP, and AWHONN certifications in-hand.
• Minimum 2 years Labor & Delivery RN experience.
• Minimum 1 year of acute care experience.
• At least 1 year of specialty experience within the past 2 years.
• Prior travel nursing experience.
• Epic EMR experience documented in work history.
• Two supervisor references at time of application.
• Skilled in IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood products, and central lines.
• Experienced in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, and emergency response.

Responsibilities

• Work in the Labor and Delivery unit of a hospital with 100–200 births per month.
• Care for neonates, adolescents, and adult patients.
• Night shift, 3x12 hours, 19:00–07:30.
• Every other weekend coverage required.
• Assist with high risk and vaginal deliveries; circulate and scrub for C-sections.
• Manage antepartum and postpartum care including VBAC management.
• Administer medications such as Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, antihypertensives, and insulin drips.
• Provide neonatal care in the delivery room including APGAR scoring.
• Use external and internal fetal monitoring, including IUPC and spiral electrode.
• Care for high-risk conditions such as preeclampsia, HELLP, placenta previa.
• Fetal monitoring, antepartum/postpartum care, newborn assessments, discharge teaching.
• Provide lactation support and breastfeeding education.
• Support pain management including epidural and PCA.
• Assist with high-risk conditions like uterine rupture, seizures, substance abuse.
• Local candidates accepted at the same pay rate.
• Previous employees must be separated for 1 year to return as traveler.
• RTO requests must be confirmed with a screenshot at time of application.
• No RTO within first two weeks; max 7 days per 13-week contract.
• First-time travelers will not be considered.

• Minimum 1 year of acute care experience required
• At least 1 year of full-time equivalent specialty experience within the past 2 years
• Prior travel nursing experience required
• Epic EMR experience required and must be documented in work history
• Two supervisor references required at time of application
• Skilled in IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and maintaining central lines
• Experienced in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, and emergency response

• Administer medications such as Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, antihypertensives, and insulin drips
• Provide neonatal care in the delivery room including APGAR scoring and neonatal resuscitation
• Use external and internal fetal monitoring, including IUPC placement and spiral electrode placement
• Care for patients with high-risk conditions such as pre-eclampsia, HELLP syndrome, placenta previa, and multiple gestation
• Responsibilities include fetal monitoring, antepartum and postpartum care, newborn assessments, and discharge teaching
• Provide lactation support and breastfeeding education to postpartum patients
• Support pain management including epidural anesthesia and PCA use
• Assist with high-risk conditions such as uterine rupture, seizure disorders, and substance abuse cases
• Local candidates accepted at the same pay rate
• Previous employees must have been separated for at least 1 year to return as a traveler
• RTO requests must be confirmed with a screenshot at time of application
• No RTO permitted within the first two weeks of the assignment, with a maximum of 7 days preferred per 13-week contract
• First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
