American Traveler, LLC. is seeking an ICU Float Pool RN for a 13-week night-shift assignment in California. Requires CA RN license, 3+ years ICU experience, and BLS/ACLS/NIHSS certifications. This travel position involves floating between two facilities, with patient loads around 1:2 and night hours 7p-7a.

Experience with Cerner EMR and impella/balloon pump care is a plus; driver’s license is required for consideration. Competitive benefits and per diem provided for itinerant nurses.

Qualifications

• Active California RN license required.
• BLS, ACLS, NIHSS certifications required.
• Minimum 3 years ICU experience required.
• Cerner EMR experience preferred.
• Travel RN experience preferred.
• General ICU experience; neuro or cardiac ICU may be considered.
• Must validate impella and balloon pump care if applicable.
• Driver's license copy required for consideration.
• Two professional references: supervisor within 12 months and peer/supervisor within 3 years with dates and rehiring eligibility.
• Navy scrub color required.
• Holiday coverage required; may rotate with permanent staff.

Responsabilités

• Float pool based in a 20-bed ICU/CCU, with floating to a sister 8-bed ICU ~9 miles away.
• Floating also to IMCU/stepdown, Observation, DOU, tele, or medsurg as needed.
• Patient ratios typically 1:2, occasionally 1:1.
• Night shift 7p-7a with every other weekend.
• Uses Cerner EMR.
• Care for complex ICU patients including neuro surgery, open heart, post-cath, impella, balloon pump.
• Manage drips (vasopressin, norepinephrine, dobutamine, dopamine, propofol, fentanyl).
• Ventilated patients; cross-site ICU population with sepsis, respiratory failure, pneumonia, stroke.

Responsibilities

• Float pool position based in a 20-bed ICU/CCU, with required floating to a sister facility's 8-bed ICU approximately 9 miles away
• Floating also required to IMCU/stepdown, Observation, DOU, tele, or medsurg units as needed
• Patient ratios typically 1:2, occasionally 1:1
• Night shift schedule, 7p-7a, with every other weekend required
• Uses Cerner EMR
• Cares for complex ICU patients including neuro surgery (craniotomies, carotids, ventriculostomies, ICP monitoring), open heart, post-cath, impella, and balloon pump patients
• Manages drips including vasopressin, levophed, norepinephrine, dobutamine, dopamine, propofol, and fentanyl
• Manages ventilated patients
• Second facility's ICU population includes sepsis, respiratory failure, pneumonia, stroke, and chronic vent patients, with increasing cardiac acuity
• Charge nurse coverage available depending on census
• Nurse aide support available at primary facility for blood draws, EKGs, and tech duties
• In-house hospitalist/intensivist coverage with on-call availability after hours
• 24/7 respiratory therapy and pharmacy support
• No IV team or dedicated monitor tech; nurses responsible for reading telemetry strips
• No CRRT or ECMO patients assigned
• Floor-specific orientation provided (3 shifts at primary facility; cross-site orientation at secondary facility)
• Provide direct bedside critical care nursing across ICU and related float units
• Navy scrub color required
• Holiday coverage required, typically one major and one minor holiday per rotation, aligned with permanent staff rotation
• Self-scheduling available but hours not always guaranteed
• First-time travelers may be considered if they meet experience requirements
• Candidates must not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity Health, within the past year
