Job summary

American Traveler is seeking a Night Shift ICU RN with 2+ years of ICU experience for a 13-week travel assignment in California. CA RN license active is required along with certifications in BLS, ACLS, NIHSS.

Travel experience and ability to manage dysrhythmias, lines, and ventilated patients are essential. Position features 3x12 hour nights (19:00–07:30), 1:2 patient ratio, and housing and licensure reimbursements are provided.

Qualifications

• Active CA RN license required.
• Minimum 2 years ICU experience required.
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (AHA/Red Cross accepted).
• Previous travel nursing experience required.
• Experience with arterial/central/PICC lines and blood product administration.
• Proficient in ventilator management and dysrhythmia care.

Responsibilities

• Provide critical care nursing to neuro, cardiovascular, and renal ICU patients.
• Manage patients with traumatic brain injury, stroke, and spinal injuries.
• Support ventilated patients with weaning and suctioning.
• Assist with procedures and monitor invasive lines.
• Adhere to infection control and PPE protocols.

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS (AHA and Red Cross accepted)
• Previous travel experience required
• Skilled in management of dysrhythmias and multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
• Experience with arterial lines, central lines, PICC lines, and blood product administration
• Proficient in ventilator management, ETT/NT suctioning, and care of ventilated patients
• Experience with CVP monitoring, IV insulin protocols, and titration of cardiac/vasoactive drips
• Neuro ICU skills including EVD, ICP monitoring, hypothermia protocol, and post-craniotomy care
• Experience with continuous IV sedation and neuromuscular blockade management
• Phlebotomy and infection prevention/PPE skills required

Responsibilities

• ICU setting with a 1:2 patient ratio
• Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours (19:00-07:30)
• 13-week assignment
• Every other weekend required (Sunday nights not counted as weekend)
• Floating required, potentially to Telemetry and Med-Surg units
• Meditech charting system experience preferred but not required
• Provide critical care nursing to medically complex ICU patients, including neuro, cardiovascular, and renal cases
• Manage patients with traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, and acute stroke
• Assist with chest tube insertion/removal and procedural sedation monitoring
• Travel pairs accepted, though matching schedules are not guaranteed
• Former permanent employees must have a 365-day separation from the facility before returning as a traveler
• RTO requests must be submitted upfront with no exceptions
