Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a Critical Care Float assignment in Virginia. Requires VA or compact RN license and 2+ years of ICU experience with EPIC charting and specialized skills.

The role covers SICU, MICU, CCU and Oncology ICU, with night shifts (3x12), every other weekend, and possible holiday coverage. Excellent pay, benefits, and travel support are offered.

Qualifications

• Active RN license (VA or compact) required at time of consideration.
• Current certifications: BLS, NIHSS; ACLS preferred.
• Minimum 2 years ICU experience; specialty experience in last year.
• EPIC charting experience required; trauma Level I preferred.
• Neurological and cardiovascular care experience emphasized.

Responsibilities

• Float pool covering SICU, MICU, CCU and Oncology ICU.
• Work in three 18-bed ICUs and one 6-bed Oncology ICU.
• Care for trauma, neuro, open-heart surgery and oncology ICU patients.
• Night shift 19:00-07:00; every other weekend required.
• Use EPIC charting; provide cross-unit critical care support.

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a Critical Care Float position requiring VA or compact RN license and 2+ years of specialty experience.

Requirements

• Active RN license (VA or compact) required to be in hand at time of consideration
• Current certifications: BLS, NIHSS, with ACLS preferred
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
• Specialty experience within the last year required
• EPIC charting experience required
• Trauma Level I experience preferred
• NIH and stroke education required
• Skills in IV therapy, central/PICC/arterial line management, and blood product administration required
• Experience with ventilator management and advanced respiratory care required
• Experience managing patients with renal failure, CRRT/CVVHD required
• Experience titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips required
• Neurological care experience including CVA/stroke management, EVD, ICP monitoring, and post-neurosurgery care required
• Cardiovascular skills such as IABP, post cardiac surgery care, and Swan-Ganz monitoring required; ECMO and TAVR experience preferred
• Experience with dysrhythmia interpretation and management requiredExperience managing multisystem organ dysfunction/failure required
• IV insulin protocol experience required

Responsibilities

• Float pool position covering Critical Care units: SICU, MICU, CCU, and Oncology ICU
• Three 18-bed ICUs and one 6-bed Oncology ICU
• Surgical ICU cares for trauma, surgical complication, neuro, and open-heart surgery patients
• Medical ICU cares for critically ill patients with exacerbated medical comorbidities
• Cardiac Care Unit monitors patients post cardiac procedures
• Oncology ICU cares for critically ill oncology patients and those requiring chemo induction
• All units manage DKA, ETOH withdrawal, and other high-acuity patients
• Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours (19:00-07:00)
• Every other weekend required, including Saturday and Sunday
• May be scheduled to work if a holiday falls within the assignment period
• Floating may be requested based on facility needs
• Uses EPIC charting system
• Provide critical care nursing support across multiple ICU specialty units as part of a float pool
• Work alongside experienced ICU teams managing high-acuity patient populations
• Must not have been previously employed as a permanent staff member within the last 6 months
• Travel assignments cannot be worked simultaneously with per diem contracts at the same facility
• Local candidates accepted at the same base rate
• Requests for time off should be minimal, ideally no full calendar weeks and no more than 7 total days, submitted only at time of initial application
• First-time travelers may be considered
