Job summary

American Traveler is seeking a Neuro ICU Registered Nurse for a travel assignment in Kentucky. The role requires recent neuro ICU experience, an active KY license, and certifications (BLS, ACLS, NIHSS).

The 19-bed unit supports stroke and neurosurgical patients, with 3x12-hour day shifts (7a–7p) and potential weekends/holidays. Prior travel experience in high-acuity ICUs is highly preferred; basic patient care coordination is expected.

Qualifications

• Active, unrestricted KY or compact RN license.
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required.
• Annual Dysrhythmia Competency Validation required.
• ADN or ASN required, BSN preferred.
• Recent neuro ICU experience required, preferably including post-interventional stroke patients (thrombectomy, coiling).
• General or mixed ICU experience in addition to neuro required.
• EVD/ventriculostomy and lumbar drain experience strongly preferred.
• ICP monitoring experience strongly preferred, ideally with Integra or Camino systems.
• Comfort managing multiple titratable vasoactive drips strongly preferred.
• 1:1 CRRT and/or Arctic Sun/TTM experience strongly preferred.
• Prior travel experience in high-acuity ICUs strongly preferred.
• Last 4 digits of SSN and month/day of date of birth required for consideration.

Responsibilities

• 19-bed neuro ICU serving CVA, neurosurgical, carotid surgery, and carotid stent patients.
• Supports comprehensive stroke program for patients requiring critical care placement.
• Also cares for surgical post-op, cardiac intervention, sepsis, general surgery, and complex care ICU patients.
• 1st shift schedule with 3x12-hour shifts, 7a-7p.
• Weekends and holidays required as needed.
• Provides comprehensive nursing care centered on patient assessment, treatment planning, and care coordination.
• Delegates and oversees patient care tasks performed by other team members.
• Facilitates patient discharge process and coordinates with Case Management as needed.
• Participates in unit-based quality improvement activities, including patient satisfaction, falls prevention, and documentation audits.
• Local candidates accepted at a lower rate; 75-mile radius rule applies for travel rate eligibility.
