Job summary

American Traveler is hiring an ER RN for a 16-bed ED Observation Unit requiring TNCC, ACLS, BLS certifications and Level I Trauma Center experience. The role is based in Connecticut with a day shift 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM and every other weekend.

Ideal candidates have active CT RN license, Epic experience, and strong skills in psychiatric care, IV therapy, respiratory management and cardiac monitoring.

Qualifications

• Active CT RN license or compact license required.
• ACLS, BLS, TNCC certifications required.
• 2 years ER experience required; 1.5 years accepted with related trauma or travel experience.
• Epic experience preferred.
• Level I/II Trauma Center experience preferred.
• Community hospital experience preferred.
• 1 reference required.
• Skills in psychiatric care, IV therapy/phlebotomy, respiratory management, neurological and cardiac care.

Responsibilities

• Position on a 16-bed ED Observation Unit separate from Main ED.
• Typical 1:6 patient ratio; day shift 7:00 AM–7:00 PM.
• Work 3x12 hour shifts; every other weekend.
• Floating within scope to meet facility needs.
• Open to block scheduling; no on-call requirements.
• Uses Epic charting system.

American Traveler is hiring an ER RN for a 16-bed ED Observation Unit requiring TNCC, ACLS, BLS certifications and Level I Trauma Center experience.

Requirements

• Active CT RN license or compact license required
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, TNCC
• Preferred certifications: CPI, ENPC, NIHSS, PALS
• 2 years of ER experience required; will accept 1.5 years from a similar hospital or with Level I Trauma or travel experience
• Epic experience preferred
• Level I and Level II Trauma Center experience preferred
• Community hospital experience preferred
• 1 reference required
• Skills in psychiatric care, IV therapy/phlebotomy, respiratory management, neurological care, cardiac monitoring, and orthopedic splinting

Responsibilities

• 16-bed ED Observation Unit, a separate location from the Main ED providing non-admitted observation level of care
• Average patient ratio of 1:6 for both day and night shifts
• Day shift schedule, 3x12 hour shifts (7:00 AM to 7:00 PM)
• Every other weekend required
• Floating within scope required to meet facility needs
• Open to block scheduling
• No on-call requirements
• Uses Epic charting system
• Located within a Short Term Acute Care, Level I Trauma Center hospital with 1,567 staffed beds
• Candidates not meeting York Street Campus ED requirements will be scheduled at the NP1 Observation Unit initially, with consideration for other campus EDs after successful contracts
• RTO requests greater than 7 days require additional approval
• Local candidates not accepted; candidates within 75 miles of the facility are considered local
• Previous perm staff must be separated from the facility for 2 years before returning as a traveler
• First-time travelers not accepted unless candidate has Epic experience
• Flu vaccine required with no declinations accepted
• COVID vaccine and booster required, with exemptions only for religious or medical reasons
• Travelers are obligated to participate in natural disaster or emergency response activities
