Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position at a Level I Trauma Center. An active IL RN license and a minimum of 2 years ER experience are required.

Responsibilities include delivering direct emergency care in a busy ED with 28 beds, collaborating with ER staff, and maintaining EPIC EMR documentation. Rotation includes weekends and 36 hours weekly; on-site parking is available.

Qualifications

  • Active IL RN license required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, and TNCC certifications required
  • CPI/MOAB certification preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of ER experience required
  • Level I Trauma experience preferred but not required
  • Trauma certification required
  • Stroke experience and cardiac rhythm interpretation skills required
  • Comfortable with vent management, critical care drips, TPA administration, and conscious sedation
  • Experience with splinting assistance and basic nursing skills such as NGT placement, IV starts, foley placement, and wound care
  • Strong assessment and communication skills with a focus on positive patient experience
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Responsibilities

  • Level I Trauma Center Emergency Department with 28 beds, including 11 hallway beds and 4 triage rooms
  • Averages approximately 120 patient visits per day
  • Patient population includes sepsis, DKA, MI, stroke, IVDA, ETOH, ortho-trauma, and all types of trauma
  • Predominantly geriatric patient population (65+) with multiple comorbidities
  • Heavy psych and addiction population with an emphasis on acuity level 2-3 cases
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:3-6 based on acuity
  • ER Tech to patient ratio of 1:14 based on acuity
  • Rotating shifts including 10a-10p and 2p-2a
  • Standard schedule of 36 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation required, typically every 3rd weekend
  • No on-call or call-back requirements
  • No floating required
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • Uses Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors
  • 24/7 RT and hospitalist coverage with ER physicians and mid-level providers on site
  • Provide direct emergency nursing care across a wide range of acute and trauma cases
  • Work alongside ER Techs who assist with point-of-care testing, EKGs, phlebotomy, and procedure setup
  • Charge nurse provides hands‑on clinical support and is actively involved in bedside care
  • Facility offers 24/7 RT and hospitalist coverage along with dedicated ER physicians and mid-level providers
  • Orientation includes NEO and one shift of unit orientation
  • Holiday coverage required for 50% of holidays within the contract
  • RTO requests must be approved through the unit manager
  • Staff participate in self‑scheduling once the schedule is balanced
  • Navy blue scrubs required
