Job summary

American Traveler, LLC. is seeking an experienced Cardiac Telemetry RN with a NC or Compact license and at least 2 years of cardiac experience for a hospital-based rapid response unit. The role includes day shifts 0645-1915, 3x12s, 36 hours per week, with weekend coverage and potential floating.

Candidates should have BLS/ACLS, be proficient in EPIC, and capable of handling complex cardiac cases including AFib, CHF, ACS, CAD, and post-procedure patients. Travel or local assignment offered.

Qualifications

  • Active RN license (NC or Compact) required; license may be pending at submission.
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of cardiac med/surg telemetry or step-down experience required.
  • EPIC charting experience preferred.
  • IV therapy/phlebotomy, starting and maintaining IVs, and peripheral line care required; arterial and central line management preferred.
  • Experience with sheath removal, cardiac drip management, and dysrhythmia interpretation/management required.
  • Wound care/wound vac and radial artery line experience preferred.
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start.

Responsibilities

  • Cardiac Telemetry unit within a Rapid Response setting
  • Day shift, 3x12 hours from 0645-1915 (36 hours per week)
  • Patient ratio of 1:6
  • Weekend coverage required - 4 weekend shifts per 4 weeks
  • Floating required as needed within or near the facility
  • No on-call requirements
  • Uses Pyxis, EPIC, and SBAR for medication, documentation, and communication
  • Cares for patients with Atrial Fibrillation, CHF, ACS, CAD, valve disorders, endocarditis, cardiomyopathy, PVD/PAD, vasculitis, carotid stenosis, and venous stasis
  • Supports post-procedure patients including CABG, AVR, MVR, TAVR, Mitral Clip, LAAO/Watchman, VATS, carotid endarterectomy, Fem-Pop bypass, amputations, and other cardiac/thoracic surgeries
  • Utilizes special equipment including arterial lines, Doppler, bladder scanner, EKG, femoral sheaths, TR band, Fem-Stop, chest tubes, and epicardial pacing wires
  • Provide cardiac telemetry nursing care including cardiac monitoring, emergency response, and dysrhythmia management
  • Assist with post-cath, post-DCCV, post-electrophysiology, and pacemaker placement patients
  • Contract staff may be assigned to a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and required to report during catastrophic events or disasters
  • 24-hour unit orientation provided, with weekly orientation sessions
  • Scrub requirement: navy blue pants and white top
  • First-time travelers accepted only if they have more than 24 months of cardiac experience
  • Former Novant Health or New Hanover employees (PERM/PRN/EP) must wait 12 months before reapplying, with facility approval required
  • Current travel per diem clinicians must choose either travel or per diem status, not both
  • Up to 7 days of RTO auto-approved (excluding holidays); no RTO allowed during the first week of assignment
  • Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
  • Travel pairs allowed if on different units and disclosed, with own transportation required
  • Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate
  • Longer contracts through 2/27/2027 will be considered
