Job summary

American Traveler is seeking a Respiratory Therapist II for a Pediatric unit in Chapel Hill, NC. The role requires NBRC‑RRT certification and at least two years of hospital experience in Peds, NICU, or PICU settings, with EPIC EMR used daily.

You will provide airway and ventilator management, inhalation therapy and pulmonary function testing, participate in on‑call weekends, and support pediatric and neonatal transport protocols.

Qualifications

• RN NBRC‑RRT certification required and NBRC‑certified.
• Minimum 2 years as Respiratory Therapist in a hospital.
• Peds/NICU/PICU experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides airway management, ventilator support and oxygen therapy.
• Performs aerosol therapy, bedside PFT, and breathing exercises.
• Works in NICU/PICU pediatric care with EPIC EMR system.
• Rotating night shift 7:00pm–7:00am, 36 hours/wk, on‑call weekends.

Job description

American Traveler is seeking a Respiratory Therapist II for a Pediatric unit requiring RRT certification and at least 2 years of hospital experience in Peds, NICU, and/or PICU settings.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program
• Minimum 2 years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist
• Minimum 2 years of experience in hospital setting with Peds, NICU, and/or PICU populations
• Current RRT certification through NBRC required
• At least one of the following required depending on practice area: ACLS, NRP, PALS, or CPFT, or advanced practice certificate for moderate sedation in Bronchoscopy Lab
• License required if applicable
• Oscillator experience within the last 5 years required
• Skilled in tracheostomy care, tracheostomy tube changes, endotracheal intubations and extubations
• Skilled in arterial punctures and pulmonary function testing
• Strong clinical documentation and communication skills
• Ability to interpret technical and clinical information and apply mathematical and reasoning skills to patient care situations

Responsibilities

• Works in Pediatric Respiratory Care Services, including NICU and PICU patient populations
• Night shift from 7:00pm to 7:00am, 36 hours per week over 3 shifts
• Uses EPIC EMR system
• No ECMO experience required for this role
• On-call required approximately 1 weekend per 6 weeks
• Weekend coverage required for 6 shifts per 6 weeks
• Must be available to work holidays if needed
• Provides airway management, mechanical ventilator management, oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, and other respiratory care procedures
• Performs standard respiratory care including aerosol medication delivery, bedside pulmonary function testing, and breathing exercises
• May assist with pediatric and neonatal patient transport per UNC Air Care Protocol when working with Carolina Air Care
• May perform ventilator care including specialized ventilator modes and weaning techniques
• Functions independently with minimal supervision and serves as a resource to other staff
• Maintains and improves clinical knowledge and skills on an ongoing basis
