Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program
• Current RRT certification through the NBRC required
• BLS required
• ACLS/NRP/PALS/CPFT or advanced sedation certs may be required depending on practice area

Responsibilities

• Provide airway management, ventilation, oxygen and aerosol therapy to patients
• Perform pulmonary function testing as needed
• May perform UNC Air Care Protocol procedures (IV/IO, chest tube, needle decompression, ABG)
• May manage ECMO for cardiac and respiratory support
• Transport of pediatric and neonatal patients via air care protocols
• Work 12-hour day shifts (7:00am–7:00pm), 3 days per week with 36 hours
• No on-call requirements
• Collaborate with physicians and staff to optimize patient care
• Maintain and advance respiratory care knowledge and skills

Job description

American Traveler is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist II with 2+ years of experience for a 13-week day shift assignment at a North Carolina health system.

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist
• Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program
• Current RRT certification through the NBRC required
• BLS requiredAt least one of the following certifications required based on practice area: ACLS, NRP, PALS, CPFT, or advanced practice certificate for moderate sedation in Bronchoscopy Lab
• License required if applicable
• Skilled in airway management, ventilator care, and specialized ventilator modes
• Experience with aerosol medication delivery, bedside pulmonary function testing, and arterial punctures
• Experience with tracheostomy care, tube changes, and endotracheal intubation/extubation
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret clinical and technical information
• Strong documentation and communication skills with patients, physicians, and staff
• Mathematical and reasoning skills applicable to clinical practice

Responsibilities

• Respiratory Therapy department position within a hospital setting
• Day shift hours from 7:00am to 7:00pm
• 12-hour shifts, 3 days per week, 36 hours weekly
• Every other weekend (EOW) coverage required
• Holiday coverage required as needed
• No on-call requirements
• May involve transport of pediatric and neonatal patients via air care protocols
• May involve ECMO management for cardiac and respiratory support when assigned to that service
• Provide airway management, mechanical ventilation, oxygen therapy, and aerosol therapy to patients with respiratory dysfunction
• Perform pulmonary function testing as needed
• Function independently with minimal supervision and serve as a resource to other staff
• Maintain and continually improve respiratory care knowledge and technical skills
• May perform advanced procedures under UNC Air Care Protocol including IV insertion, intraosseous insertion, chest tube insertion, needle decompression, and ABG sampling when assigned to Carolina Air Care
• May manage extracorporeal circulation for cardiac and respiratory support when working with ECMO patients
