Job summary

American Traveler is hiring a Medical Surgical LPN for night shift at a Level I Trauma Center in Memphis, TN. Requires 2+ years of recent specialty experience, IV certification, and travel experience.

Position features 4x12 hour nights (19:00–07:00) with 1:7 patient ratios and potential cross-campus travel within 20 miles. Applicants must meet licensure, BLS/NIHSS, and vaccination requirements.

Qualifications

• RN license in-state or compact with NLC guidelines
• Minimum 2 years Medical Surgical experience, 3+ preferred
• IV certification required
• Travel assignment experience required; first-time travelers need 3+ years recent experience
• Level I Trauma Center experience required
• BLS and NIHSS certifications required
• ADN required; BSN only for select positions
• Epic and Cerner charting experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care on a Medical Surgical unit within a Level I Trauma Center
• Night shift 19:00-07:00, 4x12 hour days
• Work in a team nursing model with patient ratios of 1:7
• On-call and weekend coverage as needed
• May float between units/campuses within a 20-mile radius
• Support post-surgical, MS/Tele, CV and endocrine/metabolic cases
• Manage GI/GU/renal conditions and ostomy care
• Assist with neurological/psychiatric care and code responses
• Adhere to isolation precautions and PPE requirements
• Travelers must comply with time-off, holiday, and eligibility rules

Requirements

• License required if applicable
• Active RN license in-state or compact license compliant with NLC guidelines
• Minimum 2 years of recent experience in Medical Surgical specialty required, 3+ years preferred
• IV certification required
• Previous travel assignment experience required; first-time travelers not accepted unless 3+ years recent experience
• Level I Trauma Center experience required
• Large hospital experience required
• BLS and NIHSS certifications required
• ADN required; BSN required only for Le Bonheur Children's, Methodist Rheumatology, or Centralized Staffing (Float Pool) positions
• Epic and Cerner charting experience preferred
• Skills in IV therapy/phlebotomy, central line and peripheral line care, blood product administration required
• Respiratory care skills including BiPAP/CPAP management, chest tube care, tracheostomy care required
• Experience with wound care/wound vac and isolation precautions/PPE required
• Cardiac monitoring skills including dysrhythmia interpretation and management required
• Experience managing medications including heparin, insulin, and cardiac drips (no titration) required
• Driver's license copy required for consideration
• Vaccination status required for consideration

Responsibilities

• Medical Surgical unit within a Level I Trauma Center, short-term acute care hospital
• Night shift, 4x12 hours (19:00-7:00)
• Team nursing model with 1:7 patient ratios, supported by PCC, RN, and other staff
• On-call and weekend coverage required as needed
• Weekend block scheduling may be considered
• May float between like units and campuses within a 20-mile radius, though cross-campus floating is rare
• Provide direct patient care for Medical Surgical, MS/Tele, Cardiovascular, and post-surgical patients including post-angiogram, plastics, and endocrine/metabolic cases
• Support patients with GI and GU/renal conditions including bowel obstruction, ostomy care, and pre/post hemodialysis management
• Assist with neurological and psychiatric care including CVA, pre/post neurosurgery, and substance withdrawal management
• Utilize rapid response and code team protocols as needed
• If Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's all fall during the assignment, must work 2 of the 3 holidays; if only 2 holidays fall during the assignment, must work at least 1
• Former permanent staff and travelers must be separated from the facility for at least 1 year before returning
• Local candidates not accepted; strict 100-mile radius rule applies
• First-time travelers not accepted unless they have 3+ years of recent specialty experience
• All requested time off must be submitted at time of application, as RTO will not be approved after an offer is made
