Job summary

Florida Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery is seeking a friendly dental assistant to support doctors chair-side, manage patient flow, and handle X-rays across the Tampa Bay area including Carrollwood, South Tampa, Wesley Chapel, Dunedin, and Plant City. You will join a team-focused practice with an emphasis on great customer service, professional presentation, and adherence to HIPAA, OSHA, and radiology requirements.

Prior oral surgery experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• Education: High School diploma or GED; Dental Assisting Certificate and Radiology License preferred.
• Minimum 1 year of job experience; oral surgery experience is a plus.
• Background check required.
• Bilingual is a plus but not required.
• Physical: mostly walking, talking, standing, and updating information in computer systems.

Responsibilities

• Provides superior chair-side clinical support and assistance to doctors, including charting and patient education.
• Manages patient flow and updates the Doctors on patient status.
• Greets patients in the reception area with a personal introduction, including name and position.
• Takes and processes X-rays.
• Performs patient hand-offs.
• Enters and updates patient treatment plans in the system.
• Verifies service needs were met and takes action when visits do not meet expectations.
• Escorts the patient to check-out.
• Completes sterilization processes for equipment and operatory.
• Monitors laboratory cases and prepares for next day’s schedule.
• Maintains emergency kits and first aid supplies, emergency medications, and oxygen.
• Follows OSHA, HIPAA, CPR, X-ray and other required certifications.
• Follows maintenance schedules for equipment.
• Identifies and reports maintenance issues.
• Other responsibilities as directed by supervisor.

This role requires travel throughout the Tampa Bay area to assist offices when they are short‑staffed or have callouts. Offices would include Carrollwood, South Tampa, Wesley Chapel, Dunedin, and Plant City. There is some flexibility with what offices would be covered.

Essential Responsibilities

• Provides superior chair-side clinical support and assistance to doctors, which includes but is not limited to charting, patient education, Operatory set-up, and clean-up.
• Manages the patient flow; redirects efforts to respond to changes, prioritizes the next operating room for the Doctors, and updates the Doctors on the patients’ status.
• Welcomes and greets patients in the reception area and provides a personal introduction, including name and position.
• Takes and processes X-rays.
• Perform patient hand-offs.
• Enters and updates patient treatment plans at the direction of the treating Doctor using the company's operational system.
• Verifies the patient’s clinical service needs were exceeded and takes appropriate action when visits do not meet expectations.
• Escorts the patient to check-out.
• Completes sterilization processes for equipment and Operatory.
• Monitors all laboratory cases and ensures they are ready for the next day’s schedule.
• Maintains emergency kits and first aid supplies, emergency medications, and oxygen tanks.
• Follows maintenance schedules for the processor, autoclave, and compressor weekly.
• Identifies, reports, and follows up on any maintenance issues in the office, including dental equipment and handpieces.
• Follows OSHA regulations and MFSD safety requirements, including compliance with HIPAA guidelines, CPR, X-rays, and other required certifications and registrations.
• Other responsibilities as directed by supervisor.

Requirements

• Demonstrating a positive attitude in the face of difficult or challenging situations
• Education Level: High School or diploma, or GED. Dental Assisting Certificate and Radiology License preferred.
• Job-Related/Industry Experience: Minimum 1-year job experience. Oral surgery experience is a plus!
• Background check required.
