Job summary

Florida Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery is seeking a friendly and dedicated dental assistant to join our team in Port Charlotte, FL. You will provide chair-side support, manage patient flow, and ensure efficient operatory operation while maintaining a compassionate patient experience.

The ideal candidate has a High School diploma/GED, Dental Assisting Certificate, and preferred Radiology License. Bilingual abilities are a plus; travel to sister offices may be offered.

Responsibilities

• Provides chair-side clinical support and assists doctors in operatory setup and cleanup.
• Manages patient flow and keeps doctors updated on patients’ status.
• Greets patients, explains procedures, and collects necessary information.
• Take and process X-rays and perform patient hand-offs as directed.
• Update patient treatment plans in the operating system.

Essential Responsibilities

• Provides superior chair-side clinical support and assistance to doctors, which includes but is not limited to charting, patient education, Operatory set-up, and clean-up.
• Manages the patient flow; redirects efforts to respond to changes, prioritizes the next operating room for the Doctors, and updates the Doctors on the patients’ status.
• Welcomes and greets patients in the reception area and provides a personal introduction, including name and position.
• Takes and processes X-rays.
• Perform patient hand-offs.
• Enters and updates patient treatment plans at the direction of the treating Doctor using the company's operational system.
• Verifies the patient’s clinical service needs were exceeded and takes appropriate action when visits do not meet expectations.
• Escorts the patient to check-out.
• Completes sterilization processes for equipment and Operatory.
• Monitors all laboratory cases and ensures they are ready for the next day’s schedule.
• Maintains emergency kits and first aid supplies, emergency medications, and oxygen tanks.
• Follows maintenance schedules for the processor, autoclave, and compressor weekly.
• Identifies, reports, and follows up on any maintenance issues in the office, including dental equipment and handpieces.
• Follows OSHA regulations and MFSD safety requirements, including compliance with HIPAA guidelines, CPR, X-rays, and other required certifications and registrations.
• Other responsibilities as directed by supervisor.

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS

• Demonstrating a positive attitude in the face of difficult or challenging situations
• Education Level: High School or diploma, or GED. Dental Assisting Certificate and Radiology License preferred.
• Job-Related/Industry Experience: Minimum 1-year job experience. Oral surgery experience is a plus!
• Background check required.
• Bilingual is a plus but not required
• Physical Requirements: Mostly walking, talking, standing, and updating information in computer systems.
