Job summary

The Salvation Army Southern California is seeking an entry-level Shelter Services Attendant to join our Modesto program. Under the Shelter Operations Manager, you will help provide shelter services and maintain cleanliness and order of the shelter building and grounds.

You will support client care, manage intake processes, monitor safety, and assist with daily janitorial tasks. The role requires strong communication and the ability to work with diverse populations; bilingual Spanish is a plus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (required).
• Education and/or experience in social services/substance abuse (preferred).
• Experience with disadvantaged populations (preferred).
• Experience in janitorial or maintenance (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain a safe, secure environment with non-violent communication.
• Secure guests' personal property at intake and during the day.
• Direct guests in cleaning and caring for shelter sleeping areas.
• Assist with guest intakes and appointments for shelter staff.
• Monitor laundry and day room areas; de-escalate when needed.
