Job summary

Northwestern Medicine seeks a part-time Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) to provide trauma-informed medical forensic services to sexual assault survivors. The SANE will work autonomously within professional and legal standards, coordinate with an interdisciplinary team, document thoroughly, and participate in court testimony when needed.

The incumbent will maintain evidence integrity, educate survivors and families, and engage in ongoing professional development while contributing to quality

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or ADN with commitment to obtain a BSN within three years of employment, OR Master’s with IL APRN license.
• Current Illinois Licensure as a Registered Nurse in good standing.
• BLS certification upon hire.
• Completion of IL SANE Clinical Training Program within 1 year of hire.
• Completion of IAFN approved 40-hour didactic class.
• Completion of IL SANE Clinical Training Log.

Responsibilities

• Acts autonomously following professional standards as outlined by SASETA and applicable acts and protocols.
• Works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to facilitate care of sexual assault survivors.
• Maintains documentation standards with accurate, timely recording and reporting.
• Maintains survivor privacy and chain of custody for evidence.
• Remains up to date on regulatory guidelines for treatment and documentation.
• Educates survivors and families to meet emotional and healthcare needs.
• Performs assigned work safely and reports unsafe conditions.
• Testifies in court as a fact witness or expert.
• Provides learning and orientation to new staff.
• Supports quality improvement efforts to enhance patient outcomes.
• Ensures ongoing professional development per guidelines.
• Participates in program development and regional/system-wide SANE activities.
• Attends monthly SANE meetings and participates in peer review.
