Job summary
Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) to provide trauma-informed medical-forensic services to survivors of sexual assault. The role requires a licensed nurse with SANE training, strong evidence handling, and collaboration with an interdisciplinary team to support recovery and legal proceedings.
The SANE will maintain documentation per regulatory standards, educate patients and families, and participate in quality improvement and ongoing professional development.
Qualifications
- Registered nurse with trauma-informed medical forensic expertise for sexual assault survivors
- Completion of required SANE training within specified timelines
- Maintains professional standards per SASETA and Illinois Nurse Practice Act
Responsibilities
- Act autonomously following professional standards and protocols
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to facilitate care
- Maintain documentation per SASETA and ensure privacy and chain of custody of evidence
- Testify in court as needed and assist SANEs in court preparation
- Educate survivors and families to support recovery and care planning
- Participate in ongoing quality improvement and program development
- Attend monthly SANE meetings and engage in peer review
