Job summary

VS Engineering in Indianapolis is actively seeking a Civil Transportation Team Lead to guide a team of engineers on local, state, and federal highway projects, delivering quality outcomes and client-focused solutions.

The role reports to the Indiana Transportation Director and emphasizes mentorship, project leadership, and business development with INDOT and public agencies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Civil Engineering.
  • Registered PE in Indiana, Ohio or Kentucky.
  • 10+ years of experience designing transportation infrastructure.
  • 5+ years of experience in managing projects and leading teams.
  • Experience with public sector design projects (INDOT, county, municipal).
  • Strong leadership and project management skills.
  • Excellent time management and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Lead transportation engineering team and provide mentorship.
  • Oversee transportation projects from conception to completion.
  • Build and maintain client relationships and expand project portfolio.
  • Work on projects for INDOT, counties and municipalities.
  • Promote innovation and problem-solving to meet challenges.

VS Engineering is looking for an energetic and driven Civil Transportation Team Lead to join our Indianapolis office. This is an incredible opportunity for an experienced project manager who thrives in a fast‑paced, growth‑oriented environment. As a Civil Transportation Team Lead, you'll be responsible for managing your own team of talented engineers, overseeing projects, and ensuring quality delivery for our clients. You’ll report directly to VS’s Indiana Transportation Director, and work in a collaborative environment that promotes innovation and professional growth.

Your Role as a Transportation Team Lead:
  • Lead and manage a transportation engineering team, providing mentorship and technical guidance.
  • Oversee and drive transportation projects from conception through completion, ensuring timely and high‑quality delivery.
  • Foster strong relationships with clients, leading business development efforts and expanding our transportation project portfolio.
  • Work on a wide range of projects, including public sector design for INDOT, counties, and municipalities.
  • Promote a culture of innovation, creativity, and problem‑solving to overcome complex challenges.

Requirements
What You Need to Succeed:
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Civil Engineering.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in Indiana, and/or Ohio and Kentucky.
  • At least 10 years of experience designing transportation infrastructure projects.
  • At least 5 years of experience in managing projects and leading teams.
  • Experience with public sector design projects (INDOT, county, municipal).
  • Strong leadership and project management skills, with the ability to motivate and mentor a team.
  • Excellent time management and problem‑solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail and quality.
