Job description

Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for a Transportation Specialist position in Oak Ridge, TN.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Stop work without fear of reprisal for unsafe conditions that could affect personnel safety or environmental risk.
  2. Maintain the Transportation Program.
  3. Perform non-hazardous, radioactive, hazardous, and mixed waste shipments.
  4. Assist with waste characterization for off-site shipment for recycling, treatment, and/or disposal.
  5. Package, mark, label, and secure load determinations for waste.
  6. Support Waste Management Specialist and Transportation Manager during waste generation and packaging.
  7. Prepare shipping papers/records and waste manifests per regulations.
  8. Coordinate with treatment/storage/disposal facilities, generators, customers, and regulators on transportation and waste management concerns.
  9. Initiate and maintain waste profiles for processing/disposal.
  10. Interpret and implement federal and state regulations and DOE orders related to hazardous materials shipping.
  11. Verify and perform safety, compliance, and final inspections of packages before transport to ensure regulatory compliance.
  12. Interpret waste management and transportation policies to assist generators in compliant waste management.
  13. Support the execution of the Integrated Safety Management System (ISMS) principles.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Education / Experience / Certifications:

  • Baccalaureate in engineering or related science, or 10 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years' related experience, including 1 year in nuclear.
  • Training, knowledge, experience, and certification in radioactive and hazardous material packaging and shipping.
  • Ability to calculate radiological and hazardous material activity for proper shipping classification.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable CFR requirements.
  • Applicants will undergo a Federal background check and must meet eligibility for access to classified information.
