Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for a Transportation Specialist opportunity in Oak Ridge, TN.

Job Duties/Responsibilities
  1. Stops work without fear of reprisal for unsafe conditions that potentially affect personnel safety or environmental risk.
  2. Maintains the Transportation Program.
  3. Performs non-hazardous, radioactive, hazardous, and mixed waste shipments.
  4. Assists with waste characterization in preparation for off-site shipment for recycling, treatment, and/or disposal.
  5. Performs waste packaging, marking, labeling, and load securement determinations.
  6. Provides support to Waste Management Specialist and Transportation Manager during waste generation and packaging operations.
  7. Prepares shipping papers/records and waste manifests in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  8. Coordinates transportation logistics.
  9. Interfaces with treatment/storage and disposal facilities, generators, and/or other customers and regulators to resolve specific transportation and waste management-related concerns.
  10. Initiates and maintains waste profiles for processing/disposal facilities.
  11. Interprets and implements federal and state regulations and DOE orders as they pertain to the shipping of hazardous materials.
  12. Verifies and performs all necessary safety checks, compliance checks, and final inspections of all packages prior to transport to ensure compliance with DOT, DOE, federal, state, and local regulations.
  13. Interprets waste management and transportation rules, regulations, and policies to assist generators in the proper compliant management of facility and Project waste.
  14. Supports the execution of Integrated Safety Management System (ISMS) guiding principles and core functions.
  15. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills
  1. Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  2. Strong communication, verbal and written skills.
  3. Excellent organization skills.
  4. Strong math skills.
Education /Experience/ Certifications
  1. Baccalaureate in engineering or related science, or 10 years of relevant experience preferred.
  2. Minimum of 5 years' job-related experience, of which 1 year is nuclear.
  3. Training, knowledge, experience, and certification in radioactive and hazardous material packaging and shipping.
  4. Ability to calculate radiological and/or hazardous material activity to determine proper shipping name and waste classification.
  5. Must have thorough knowledge of applicable Code of Federal Regulation (CFR) requirements.
  6. Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter.
  7. US citizenship required.
