Transportation Security Officers

Transportation Security Officers are responsible for providing security and protection of travelers across all transportation sectors in a courteous and professional manner. Their duties may also extend to securing high-profile events, important figures, and anything that impacts our transportation systems. Salary Information: The salary range for Bismarck, ND (BIS - Bismarck Municipal Airport) is $50,214 to $61,910 or $24.06 to $29.66 per hour, including locality pay of 17.06% and a retention incentive of 10% of adjusted pay, contingent upon annual approval and funding.

This position is located in the Transportation Security Administration, Department of Homeland Security (DHS). As a TSO within Security Operations, you will provide security and protection of air travelers, airports, and aircraft. Duties may include but are not limited to:

Qualifications

To qualify for the SV-D pay band (equivalent to GS-5/6), you must meet one of the following:

1. Experience: At least one year of full-time work experience in security, aviation screening, or as an X-ray technician.
2. Education: High school diploma, GED, HiSET, or TASC high school equivalency certificate.

Experience is credited based on a 40-hour workweek. Volunteer experience through National Service programs can also be credited. Additional requirements include occasional travel for training, verification of Selective Service registration for male applicants born after 12/31/59, and a background check.

• Reemployed annuitants may have their salary reduced due to pension.
• TSOs must adhere to TSA dress and appearance requirements, including covering tattoos that are visible beyond the uniform if they are indecent or associated with gangs or extremism.
• Work schedules vary, including full-time and part-time shifts, with potential irregular hours, nights, holidays, and weekends.
• Employees must maintain certification and fitness for duty, including training, background checks, and drug screening.
• No relocation or travel expenses are paid by TSA.
