Volkert Inc. is seeking an experienced Transportation Project Engineer to support our Gulf Region in Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee. The role requires 4+ years in roadway design or traffic engineering and a PE license, with proficiency in OpenRoads Designer, MicroStation, and MS Office.

Join a leader in design and consulting, driving complex transportation projects from concept through construction. You will lead teams, coordinate with clients and subconsultants, and contribute to QA/QC

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program (M.S. a plus)
• 4-10+ years of relevant experience in roadway design, traffic engineering, and/or transportation planning
• PE license required
• Experience with DOT design methods, plan preparation, standards, and specifications
• Familiarity with MUTCD and AASHTO guidelines
• Proficiency with OpenRoads Designer and/or MicroStation
• Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to manage schedules and travel as needed

Responsibilities

• Lead or assist in the design of transportation projects, including roadway geometry, drainage, traffic signals, signing and pavement marking, ITS, and maintenance of traffic plans
• Conduct traffic operations analyses and prepare traffic impact, safety, corridor, and long-range planning studies
• Prepare construction plans, specifications, quantities, cost estimates, technical reports, and memorandums
• Perform detailed engineering calculations and apply DOT standards to solve problems
• Direct EIs, designers, and interns, and coordinate with subconsultants to deliver projects on schedule and within budget
• Participate in client meetings, business development efforts, and team initiatives
• Perform other duties as assigned
