Job summary

Volkert is seeking an experienced Transportation Project Engineer in the Gulf Region to support Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee. The role requires 4+ years in traffic or roadway design and a PE license or progress toward one.

You will lead transportation designs, perform extensive analyses, and coordinate with EIs, designers, and subconsultants to deliver projects on schedule and within budget.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited Civil Engineering degree required; MS preferred.
• 4–10+ years in roadway design, traffic engineering, or transportation planning.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required or in process.
• Familiar with DOT design methods, plans, standards and budgets.
• Knowledge of MUTCD, AASHTO guidelines; FHWA standards preferred.
• Proficiency with OpenRoads/MicroStation and MS Office.
• Ability to travel and cooperate with clients and teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead or assist in design of transportation projects (roadway geometry, drainage, signals, signing).
• Conduct traffic operations analyses and prepare related studies.
• Prepare construction plans, specs, quantities, estimates, reports.
• Perform engineering calculations per DOT standards and practices.
• Direct EIs, designers, and interns; coordinate with subconsultants.
• Participate in client meetings, business development, and team initiatives.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
