Job summary

Volkert is seeking a Transportation Project Engineer to support our Gulf Region in Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee. You will lead roadway design and traffic engineering efforts, prepare plans and reports, and coordinate with EIs, designers, and subconsultants to deliver projects on time and within budget.

Applicants should have a ABET BS in Civil Engineering, PE license, 4–10+ years of roadway design/traffic experience, and proficiency with OpenRoads Designer or MicroStation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program (M.S. a plus).
• PE license.
• 4–10+ years of roadway design/traffic engineering/transportation planning.
• Proficiency with OpenRoads Designer and MicroStation.
• Experience with DOT design methods and standards.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel overnight.

Responsibilities

• Lead or assist in the design of transportation projects, including roadway geometry, drainage, traffic signals, signing and pavement marking, ITS, and maintenance of traffic plans
• Conduct traffic operations analyses and prepare traffic impact, safety, corridor, and long-range planning studies
• Prepare construction plans, specifications, quantities, cost estimates, technical reports, and memorandums
• Perform detailed engineering calculations and apply established DOT standards and practices to solve problems
• Direct EIs, designers, and interns, and coordinate with subconsultants to deliver projects on schedule, within budget, and in line with QA/QC standards
• Participate in client meetings, business development efforts, and team initiatives
• Perform other duties as assigned
