Job summary

BKF Engineers is seeking a Project Engineer with civil traffic and transportation design experience to support roadway, highway, and multimodal projects. Based in San Jose, the role offers hybrid or remote work from Redwood City or Pleasanton for the right candidate, collaborating with seasoned PMs and multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in traffic/transportation engineering with roadway and multimodal focus.
• ABET-accredited B.S. in Civil Engineering.
• Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Experience with SignCAD, AGI 32, or Synchro/Simtraffic is desirable.
• EIT certification is highly preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and coordination of transportation projects including roadways, corridors, roundabouts, curbs, retaining walls, overpasses, transit facilities, and ADA ramps.
• Traffic engineering tasks: signal design, pavement markings, signage, and multimodal corridor improvements.
• Prepare geometric design plans and profiles per Caltrans/local standards.
• Develop grading, drainage, and stormwater plans for transportation corridors.
• Design transportation-related utility systems and coordinate with public agencies.
• Develop quantity takeoffs and cost estimates.
• Integrate multimodal and sustainable design elements such as complete streets and green infrastructure.
• Apply Federal, State (Caltrans), City, and County codes.
• Prepare conceptual design studies and alternatives analyses for roadway and multimodal improvements.
• Occasional travel between BKF offices and client sites.
