Job summary

Fehr & Peers is seeking interns to join our transportation planning practice in the United States. Interns will analyze planning problems, communicate findings clearly, and use software to inform recommendations.

Projects span traffic operations, bicycle/pedestrian planning, freight movement, and regional plans, with emphasis on learning and professional growth. Hours are flexible; interns gain feedback and collaborate with staff at all levels.

Qualifications

• Strong interest or knowledge of transportation planning/engineering principles and practices.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal relationship skills, and presentation skills.
• A passion for partnering with and serving local communities.
• Enrollment in bachelor’s (junior/senior) or master’s degree program in transportation/civil engineering, urban planning, or related fields.
• Proficiency with listed software (Excel, ArcGIS, SketchUp, AutoCAD, etc.).
• Openness to adopting new tools and technologies while maintaining professional judgment.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and solve complex transportation planning or engineering problems.
• Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing, including in community engagement settings.
• Use software effectively and make timely, informed recommendations.
• Work on projects such as traffic operations simulations, bike/pedestrian plans, freight/goods movement, travel demand modeling, transit planning, and regional plans.
• Learn and adopt new tools and technologies to improve day-to-day work while maintaining accountability for results.
