This is an exciting opportunity to perform road maintenance work for the Agency of Transportation (VTrans), involving tasks related to the state transportation system, including plowing. This seasonal position is based in Irasburg and is responsible for assisting during winter weather events. Overtime work may be required.
This position, Transportation Operations Technician I - Temporary (Job Requisition #52444), is open to all State employees and external applicants. The duties require working in extreme outdoor weather conditions. Employees may need to report outside their scheduled hours and be reachable by phone. Work involves hazards near heavy equipment, hazardous materials, roadside litter, and traffic. Exposure to blood, airborne pathogens, and emergencies like floods and snow is possible. Use of maintenance tools and equipment, lifting materials, and participation in a drug and alcohol testing program are required. Considerable overtime, especially during winter, is a condition of employment.
No education or experience is required. Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
High school diploma or equivalent.
A valid driver's license is required. Incumbents must live within reasonable proximity to their workstation. Possession of a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required for successful completion of probation. All employees must complete VTTC coursework within six months or be enrolled.
